Hello and welcome to the live commentary for the Premier League clash between Tottenham and Brighton and Hove Albion.
Tottenham still have a realistic chance of qualifying for the Champions League but must win to stay within touching distance of Manchester United. Spurs are three points behind the fourth-placed Red Devils and have played the same number of games. Despite late heartache in their previous two fixtures, conceding stoppage-time equalisers against Southampton and Everton, the north London outfit have still been in good form in the Premier League. They have lost just two of their last nine games, winning five and drawing two.
Brighton are just one place and four points behind Tottenham and have played two games less than Cristian Stellini’s side. The Seagulls are unbeaten in their last six games, winning three and drawing three, and boast an impressive away record. They have won four and drawn three of their last seven away fixtures, last losing on the road against Manchester City in October 2022. They will also be looking for revenge after Tottenham won the reverse fixture 1-0.
TOTTENHAM SUBS: Fraser Forster, Brandon Austin, Davinson Sanchez, Richarlison, Arnaut Danjuma, Japhet Tanganga, Pape Sarr, Alfie Devine, Romaine Mundle.
TOTTENHAM (3-4-2-1): Hugo Lloris; Cristian Romero, Eric Dier, Clement Lenglet; Pedro Porro, Oliver Skipp, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg; Ivan Perisic; Dejan Kulusevski, Son Heung-Min; Harry Kane.
BRIGHTON (4-2-3-1): Jason Steele; Joel Veltman, Levi Colwill, Lewis Dunk, Pervis Estupinan; Pascal Gross, Moises Caicedo; Solly March, Alexis Mac Allister, Kaoru Mitoma; Danny Welbeck.
BRIGHTON SUBS: Robert Sanchez, Adam Webster, Julio Enciso, Deniz Undav, Yasin Ayari, Billy Gilmour, Evan Ferguson, Jan Paul van Hecke, Facundo Buonanotte.
The game is level at the break after Dunk's header cancelled out Son's superb strike. The home side took the lead when Son found the top corner with a curling effort from the edge of the box, scoring his 100th Premier League goal in some style. From then, Brighton had most of the ball with Spurs happy to defend. Mitoma found the back of the net with a close-range effort, but his goal was disallowed after controlling the ball with his arm. Lloris then made two great saves before being beaten. The 36-year-old pushed away efforts from Mac Allister and Caicedo before being given no chance with Dunk's powerful header.
Tottenham have gone from winning to drawing in stoppage-time of their last two games and it is easy to see why. After scoring the opener, they immediately started to defend their lead rather than utilise their attacking trio of Kane, Son and Kulusevski to find a second. They have frustrated Brighton at times and have limited the space in their own defensive third, but they were always going to find it difficult to stay compact for the entire half. As for the Seagulls, they have done everything right after conceding. They have always looked like a threat on the attack and have defended resolutely with Steele hardly challenged.
That's all for today, goodbye.
Tottenham's win keeps the pressure on Manchester United and Newcastle United, with Spurs only three points behind the pair heading into the final stretch of fixtures. They have played a game more than the two teams directly ahead of them, but have them both to play after hosting Bournemouth in their next match. As for Brighton, they are still in a strong position to qualify for the Europa League but have dropped behind Aston Villa in the table. Next up, they travel to Chelsea.
