The hosts kick us off and we are underway!
This will be the hosts’ opening game in Group A as they bid to reach the European Championships for the second consecutive time, having been knocked out at the group stage at the most recent edition. They finished top of their Nations League group last year and will be hoping to carry on that strong form into this qualifying campaign.
Hello and welcome to live coverage of the European Championships qualifier between Scotland and Cyprus at Hampden Park.
The visitors meanwhile have never qualified for a major tournament and finished below Scotland in qualifying for Euro 2020. They did pick up an impressive victory last time out though, winning 3-2 away at Israel, and will be looking to get off to a strong start here.
SCOTLAND (3-5-1-1): Angus Gunn; Ryan Porteous, Grant Hanley, Kieran Tierney; Aaron Hickey, Stuart Armstrong, Ryan Jack, Callum McGregor, Andrew Robertson; John McGinn; Che Adams.
SUBS: Kenny McLean, Liam Cooper, Liam Kelly, Jacob Brown, Ryan Christie, Zander Clark, Lewis Ferguson, Billy Gilmour, Nathan Patterson, Lyndon Dykes, Scott McTominay, Dominic Hyam.
CYPRUS (3-5-1-1): Demetris Demetriou; Ioannis Kousoulos, Alexander Gogic, Valentin Roberge; Minas Antoniou, Charalambos Kyriakou, Konstantinos Laifis, Kostakis Artymatas, Nicholas Ioannou; Grigoris Kastanos; Ioannis Pittas.
The two teams make their way onto the pitch ahead of this important fixture.
For all of Scotland's control, their lead is still just the one goal and if Cyprus can conjure up more of an attacking threat, they could still fancy their chances of coming away with a result. Clarke will be desperate for what should be a killer second goal, and he will surely be telling his team they need to find one during his half-time team talk.
Thanks for joining us for live coverage of Scotland's 3-0 European Championship qualifying victory over Cyprus. Goodbye!
The referee blows the final whistle, and it is Scotland who run out comfortable 3-0 winners as they get their European Championship qualifying campaign off to a great start. McGinn struck in the 21st minute to set them on their way to victory, though there were some anxious moments as they spurned numerous chances to kill the game off. That changed in the 87th minute though as Dykes nodded Christie's cross down for McTominay to lash into the roof of the net. Having come off the bench in the 67th minute, McTominay then grabbed his second in added time as he coolly finished from Robertson's assist, before Ioannou saw red for a second yellow in the dying seconds to compound Cyprus' misery.
In their bid to make it to the tournament in Germany next year, Clarke will be delighted with how his team have started their campaign as they move top of Group A, though Spain are due to take on Norway later on Saturday. Scotland's next game will come against Luis de la Fuente's Spain in another important qualifier on Tuesday at Hampden Park, while Cyprus will look to pick themselves up from this disappointing defeat when they play a friendly away at Armenia the same day.
