Hello and welcome to this live commentary for the Premier League game between Leicester City and Chelsea from the King Power Stadium.
After a promising start to the year, three consecutive defeats have seen Leicester dragged right back into the relegation picture. After a shock FA Cup exit against Blackburn Rovers, Brendan Rodgers' side lost 1-0 to fellow relegation rivals Southampton and now sit just two points above the drop zone.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are looking for a third win in the space of seven days as the pressure begins to ease on new manager Graham Potter. A 1-0 win over Leeds was followed up by a 2-1 aggregate victory against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League and the Blues now travel to Leicester with the chance to extend their unbeaten run as they look to climb up the table and towards the European qualification spots.
LEICESTER CITY (4-2-3-1): Danny Ward; Ricardo Pereria, Harry Souttar, Wout Faes, Timothy Castagne; Daniel Amartey, Nampalys Mendy; Kelechi Iheanacho, James Maddison, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall; Patson Daka.
LEICESTER CITY SUBS: Daniel Iversen, Mateus Tete, Jonny Evans, Boubakary Soumare, Luke Thomas, Jamie Vardy, Dennis Praet, Harvey Barnes, Wilfred Ndidi.
CHELSEA (3-4-2-1): Kepa Arrizabalaga; Wesley Fofana, Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucurella; Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Enzo Fernandez, Mateo Kovacic, Ben Chilwell; Joao Felix, Mykhailo Mudryk; Kai Havertz.
CHELSEA SUBS: Christian Pulisic, Trevoh Chalobah, Denis Zakaria, Conor Gallagher, Benoit Badiashile, Noni Madueke, Carney Chukwuemeka, Marcus Bettinelli, Hakim Ziyech.
Leicester have won just one of their last six home league games against Chelsea (D2 L3), winning 2-0 in January 2021. They lost this exact fixture 3-0 last season.
It was a non-stop first half but Potter should be pleased with how his Chelsea side have applied themselves in that first period. They could have had another two from Joao Felix and were only denied by the post and the offside flag. They have given Leicester opportunities at points through lapse defending and Rodgers' side will need to make the most of them in the second period if they are to find a way back into this game.
Goals from Chilwell, Havertz and Kovacic are enough for Chelsea as they conclude a fantastic week with a 3-1 win against Leicester City. Chilwell struck early with a fine volley following a corner before Daka's well-hit strike drew Rodgers' side level. However, Havertz's deft finish gave Chelsea the lead again just before the break before Kovacic's thumping volley secured all three points for Potter's side in the second half against a Leicester side that faded away and were reduced to ten men after Faes' sending off in the closing stages.
That is all for today - thanks for tuning in!
It's Premier League action for both sides next weekend. Chelsea host Everton while Leicester travel to Brentford.
