Mikel Merino has scored a goal for Real Sociedad! Assist by Roberto López.
GOAL FOR SOCIEDAD! The pressure finally tells, with Merino thumping in a venomous finish from the left side of the area as the home side pull themselves back into it to set up a grand stand finish.

Minute
Description
77'
Sociedad are piling plenty of men forward in search of a goal to get them back into this match, but that is of course leaving space for Madrid to exploit on the counter.
75'
Another opportunity for Isak, after he is played in by Januzaj, who has had a real impact for Sociedad since coming on. Sociedad’s forward gets the ball stuck under his feet somewhat, but manages to get off a shot which is deflected over.
73'
Isak has not had many chances so far, but just managed to get off a decent strike which Courtois does well to keep out.
72'
The VAR check is over and the goal stands. That will be an extremely difficult pill for Sociedad to swallow, but as it stands, Madrid are heading to the top of LaLiga!
70'
K. Benzema has scored a goal for Real Madrid! Assist by F. Valverde.
Valverde’s cross was behind Benzema, who deserves all the credit for taking it under his spell and drilling home.
GOAL! BENZEMA MAKES IT 2-0 TO MADRID! The frustration is doubled for Sociedad, as the visitors race up the other end and score a second. Valverde lifted a cross into Benzema, who after bringing it down with his shoulder – though there will be a VAR check for handball – hammers in a finish.
69'
Zurutuza gets yellow.
That seems an incredibly harsh decision on Sociedad. Merino was offside, but he did not seem to be blocking Courtois’ view.
Yellow Card David Zurutuza Veillet
63'
Remiro is forced into action, diving low to keep out Kroos’ strike from the edge of the box.
62'
Januzaj wastes no time in getting himself involved in the thick of the action, receiving the ball on the edge of Madrid’s box and immediately getting off a shot, though it soars well wide.
60'
A. Januzaj enters the game and replaces Mikel Oyarzabal.
Éder Militão enters the game and replaces Sergio Ramos.
Elustondo enters the game and replaces Andoni Gorosabel.
Oyarzabal has had a quiet night, and he has now made way for former Manchester United winger Januzaj.
Well, that is a blow for Madrid. After giving the visitors the lead, Ramos is forced off due to that injury. He has been replaced by Militao.
Sociedad have also taken the opportunity to make some changes. First, Gorosabel has been replaced by Elustondo.
58'
Portu gets lucky after he goes unpunished for a rather rash lunge on Varane, who had already been pulled up for a foul.
50'
Penalty goal scored by Sergio Ramos for Real Madrid!
GOAL! RAMOS MAKES NO MISTAKE! The VAR check finds no reason to overturn the referee’s decision, and it’s a cool finish from Madrid’s captain, who slots into the bottom-right corner, sending Remiro the wrong way. Madrid lead 1-0.
48'
Diego Llorente gets yellow.
Llorente has been given a booking for the challenge.
47'
Impressive from Vinicius, who was one of Madrid’s brightest players in the first half. He charges down the left and lobs in an inviting cross, but no Madrid attacker could get there.
46'
Madrid get the second half up and running.
45' +2
HALF-TIME: REAL SOCIEDAD 0-0 REAL MADRID.
45' +1
As the fourth official signals for two minutes of stoppage time, Carvajal again gets in down the right and this time, he delivers a fine cross. However, neither Benzema or James are able to make contact and Sociedad come away unscathed.
42'
Madrid’s full-backs – both renowned as fine attackers – have not had too much joy going forward so far, though Carvajal has just got into a decent position on the right flank. His cross, however, failed to live up to expectation, with Sociedad easily clearing the danger.
40'
Sociedad take a short corner, with Odegaard then attempting to drop a cross onto Isak’s head. Varane gets there first, however, with Merino’s follow up effort a poor one.
35'
After a cautious start, Madrid seem to be clicking into gear, with Valverde and Vinicius in particular becoming more involved. The latter gets down the left before laying it back to his compatriot Casemiro, though Remiro is hardly tested by his long-range shot.
31'
A break for drinks, and the chance for the coaching staff to offer some tips to their respective teams.
29'
Kroos goes for goal from the resulting free-kick, but sends his effort well high and wide of the target.
28'
Andoni Gorosabel gets yellow.
Another booking for Sociedad, as Gorosabel receives a yellow card for bringing down Vinicius, who would have been in down the left.
27'
A first real venture forward from Marcelo, who manages to get into Sociedad’s area. However, he is unable to get any power on his effort, tumbling off balance under pressure from a defender before he can make a true connection.
25'
Sociedad are controlling it nicely in midfield, though have so far just lacked the required composure or penetration in the final third.
23'
Benzema was in superb form against Valencia, though Madrid’s leading scorer has struggled to get into this game as of yet, with Llorente and Le Normand doing well to deny the Frenchman space.
21'
Casemiro gets yellow.
Now it’s Casemiro who goes into the book, having been cautioned for leading into Merino with his arm.
16'
Zubeldia gets yellow.
Zubeldia is shown the game's first yellow card, for scything down Casemiro.
14'
Should Madrid win today, it would move them level on points with Barca. However, thanks to their 2-0 win over their title rivals in March – after a goalless draw earlier in the season – Los Blancos would move top thanks to their head-to-head record.
12'
Odegaard, playing against his parent club, lifts in the resulting free-kick, but Madrid manage to clear their lines before they are awarded a free-kick for a foul on Marcelo.
10'
Ramos is perplexed after he is penalised for a foul on Portu, around 30 yards out from goal, though the replays show the defender clearly put an arm across Sociedad’s forward.
8'
Bar the chance for Vinicius, Madrid have not looked too adventurous in these opening stages, with Sociedad enjoying plenty of possession.
6'
Sociedad manage a sustained spell of possession, which eventually results in Portu lofting a pass towards Monreal. He is beaten to it by Carvajal, though Courtois is forced to rush off his line and prevent a corner.
1'
KICK-OFF! Sociedad have got proceedings up and running.
Hello and welcome to live coverage of Real Madrid’s LaLiga clash with Real Sociedad!
Barcelona’s draw with Sevilla on Friday has handed Madrid the chance to move top of LaLiga today, should they claim all three points against Sociedad, who beat Los Blancos en route to the Copa del Rey final prior to the suspension of the season.
Sociedad sit sixth, having taken just one point from their two matches since the resumption of the season. However, a win today would see them move up to fifth, within two points of the Champions League places.
REAL SOCIEDAD SUBSTITUES: Aritz Elustondo, Willian Jose, Adnan Januzaj, Aihen Munoz, Miguel Moya, David Zurutuza, Jon Pacheco Dozagarat; Roberto Lopez, Andoni Zubiaurre, Nais Djouahra, Julen Lobete, Martin Zubimendi.
REAL SOCIEDAD (4-2-3-1): Alex Remiro; Andoni Gorosabel, Diego Llorente, Robin Le Normand, Nacho Monreal; Igor Zubeldia, Mikel Merino; Portu, Martin Odegaard, Mikel Oyarzabal; Alexander Isak.
REAL MADRID (4-3-3): Thibaut Courtois; Dani Carvajal, Raphael Varane, Sergio Ramos, Marcelo; Federico Valverde, Casemiro, Toni Kroos; James Rodriguez, Karim Benzema, Vinicius Junior.
REAL MADRID SUBSTITUTES: Alphonse Areola, Eder Militao, Eden Hazard, Luka Modric, Gareth Bale, Marco Asensio, Brahim Diaz, Ferland Mendy, Mariano Diaz, Diego Altube, Rodrygo, Javi Hernandez.
Three changes, meanwhile, from Zinedine Zidane, compared to the side that started against Valencia on Thursday. Vinicius, James and Marcelo start, with Hazard, Modric and Mendy making way. Asensio returned from a long injury lay off to score with his first touch last time out, but he has to settle for a place on the bench.
The teams are out at Anoeta stadium, with kick-off coming up in a matter of minutes.
It took until the second half for Madrid to really step up to their best against Valencia on Thursday, and Zidane will be hoping his half-time words have the same impact this time around, with top spot within Los Blancos’ reach.
Sociedad, meanwhile, stay in sixth, five points behind Atletico Madrid and Sevilla, who occupy third and fourth place respectively. Madrid, meanwhile, do have an injury to Ramos to think about, with the defender having gone off with what appeared to be a knee problem shortly after giving his side the lead.
Well, that’s all for now. Until next time, goodbye.
