Hello and welcome to live match coverage of the Europa League last-32 second leg between Manchester United and Club Brugge at Old Trafford.
After drawing 1-1 in the first leg back at Jan Breydel Stadium, the home side will come into this clash full of confidence having beaten Watford 3-0 in their last Premier League outing. Brugge, meanwhile, also extended their unbeaten run with a 1-0 victory over Charleroi in their most recent domestic fixture.
MANCHESTER UNITED (4-2-3-1): Sergio Romero; Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Eric Bailly, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw; Scott McTominay, Fred; Juan Mata, Bruno Fernandes, Daniel James; Odion Ighalo.
CLUB BRUGGE (4-3-3): Simon Mignolet; Clinton Mata, Brandon Mechele, Simon Deli, Federico Rica; Mats Rits, Odilon Kossounou, Hans Vanaken; Maxim De Cuyper, David Okereke, Percy Tau.
MANCHESTER UNITED SUBS: David de Gea, Victor Lindelof, Brandon Williams, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard, Tahith Chong, Mason Greenwood.
CLUB BRUGGE SUBS: Ethan Horvath, Eduard Sobol, Majet Mitrovic, Charles de Ketelaere, Siebe Schrijvers, Michal Krmencik, Krepin Diatta.
In their last 12 matches, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have improved from a consistency standpoint, losing only three games in that time. The hosts have also won all three of their home Europa League matches thus far in the competition, scoring eight goals and conceding none. After conceding an away goal in the first leg, Phillipe Clement’s side need to score at Old Trafford if they are to have any chance of progressing to the next round. In all competitions, the visitors have scored in 10 of their previous 12 matches, and they will need to be at their best offensively to break down United’s resolute defence.
The teams are out, and kick-off will soon be upon us here at Old Trafford.
The hosts will be delighted with their first-half performance and will look to continue in much the same fashion after the restart. Fernandes has been exceptional thus far in the match with Brugge struggling to get near him whenever he picks up the ball. The visitors, meanwhile, will be looking at damage limitation after the restart. Since going down to ten men, they have failed to get out of their own half for a sustained period of time, and it is vital that they get someone to pick up Fernandes if they are to keep the score down in the second half.
United will find out their last-16 opponents for the Europa League during tomorrow’s draw. In their next fixture, however, they return to Premier League action against Everton as they look to continue their good form. Brugge, meanwhile, travel to Genk as they look to bounce back.
That brings an end to our coverage of the last-32 second leg between Manchester United and Club Brugge in the Europe League. Thank you very much for joining us. Goodbye!
