Morata flicks on a long ball but is flagged for offside. It is looking as though Simeone's men are going to have to settle for a point, with just 60 seconds of added time to play.
90' +1
Saul slots through what is nearly an inch-perfect pass for Lodi down the left. It has a tad too much pace on it, though, and the left-back is unable to keep it in play. Only three minutes have been added on here.
89'
Manu García gets yellow.
Hermoso gets yellow.
A frustrated Hermoso is shown a yellow by the referee, making it six cards for the contest.
Garcia is harshly booked for a challenge on Lodi.
88'
Tomás Pina enters the game and replaces Joselu.
Pina replaces Joselu for the closing stages of the contest.
87'
It appears as though Alaves boss Garitano is about to make a defensive change, seemingly happy with the point.
85'
Atletico, having reverted into defensive mode in the 10 minutes leading up to Perez's strike, are now going all out attack. This is a match that has got better the longer it has gone on - and there is still time for one of the teams to snatch a win.
83'
Lucas Pérez has scored a goal for Alaves! Assist by Laguardia.
GOOOOAAALLLL!!! DEPORTIVO ALAVES 1-1 ATLETICO MADRID! It's a screamer from Perez! The ex-Arsenal man gets away from a few opposition players, shifts the ball on to his left boot and curls it away from Oblak from 25 yards out. It takes something special to beat the Atletico keeper and that really was special.
Laguardia is credited with the assist, but this goal was all about the quality of Perez to shake off a few players, get a shot away and find the top-left corner.
81'
Joselu barges into Arias inside the Atletico box and the referee has little choice but to award a free-kick to the visitors. Arias stays down for a bit to eat up some valuable seconds.
79'
Alaves have been well on top over the last five minutes. They win another free-kick, this time down the right, but the delivery is disappointing and Atletico clear their lines. Simeone's men are masters at shutting out the opposition.
Minute
Description
77'
Burke nearly makes an instant impact as he blasts the ball goalwards, but it hits a sea of bodies in front of Oblak. These next 15 minutes or so will be very long for Atletico!
75'
O. Burke enters the game and replaces M. Wakaso.
Felipe gets yellow.
Felipe is shown a yellow card for putting his arms around Perez to halt the forward's charge down Alaves' left.
Burke is introduced in place of Wakaso, who has been on a yellow card since the 29-minute mark.
72'
IT SHOULD BE 2-0! Morata is played clean through but is denied by Pacheco from the one-on-one. From the next attack, Thomas releases the ball for Correa, whose shot is saved down low. How costly could those misses prove to be?
70'
Koke enters the game and replaces Diego Costa.
Álvaro Morata has scored a goal for Atletico Madrid! Assist by Á. Correa.
GOOOOOAAALLLL!!! DEPORTIVO ALAVES 0-1 ATLETICO MADRID! They always seem to find a way! Correa again shows why he is so important to Atletico by slipping the ball through for Morata, who makes it three goals in three games by tucking a first-time shot through the legs of Pacheco.
Koke is on for Costa in Atletico's third and final change.
Correa showed great vision to slide the ball through for Morata, who kept his cool in front of goal.
68'
Pere Pons enters the game and replaces Luis Rioja.
Pons replaces Rioja in the home side's first substitution of the match.
67'
Morata's attempted cross to Costa at the back post has too much on it and goes straight out of play.
64'
There has still be just one shot on target all match, but Joselu and Lodi have both come close to scoring in the second half. Atletico could really do with all three points today and they have stepped things up since the interval.
62'
Alaves counter but Vidal's searching ball over the top is overhit. Had he got that right Perez would have been clean through.
61'
Laguardia gets yellow.
Laguardia brings down Costa towards the left-hand touchline and is shown the third yellow card of the contest.
60'
Álvaro Morata enters the game and replaces H. Herrera.
With exactly an hour played, Simeone makes his second change by bringing on Morata for Herrera - an attacking substitution.
59'
Costa brings down a ball over the top and appears to be clean through, but the offside flag stops him in his tracks.
58'
The match has just about calmed down after that frantic five-minute period that saw both sides come close. Atletico have a lot more about them in the second half, which is not at all surprising given how poor they were in the opening 45 minutes.
56'
The second half has already been a lot more entertaining than the first, with both sides coming close to scoring. Lodi has a go from further out this time, sending his deflected shot over the crossbar.
53'
Herrera shoots horribly wide as Atletico's attacking struggles continue. Simeone's men are fortunate not to be a goal behind.
50'
Thomas passes the ball straight to Joselu 30 yards from goal. The Alaves forward plays it through for Duarte down the left but the attack breaks down. That could have turned out a whole lot worse for Atletico!
48'
Herrera's delivery from a deep free-kick is rather flat. It is inadvertently helped on but Pacheco comfortably pounces on the loose ball.
46'
T. Partey enters the game and replaces Marcos Llorente.
Simeone has made a change at the break by bringing on Thomas for Llorente.
RESTART! Alaves get us back under way at Mendizorrotza Stadium!
45'
HALF-TIME: DEPORTIVO ALAVES 0-0 ATLETICO MADRID
43'
Alaves are the side in control of things as we approach the interval, having had 54 per cent of the ball so far. A cross is played into the box from the left and is headed clear by Atletico centre-back Felipe.
41'
Aguirregabiria fouls Lodi, who was going nowhere, to give away a needless free-kick deep in Atletico's half. There are less than five minutes to go until half-time at Mendizorrotza Stadium.
39'
Vidal curls a free-kick towards the back post and it goes straight out of play without a touch. That was a decent delivery from the former Barcelona wideman.
37'
The visitors have had only two touches of the ball in the opposition penalty area, compared to one for Alaves - a pretty telling statistic. Simeone will surely demand more from his attacking players in the second half.
35'
Arias has some ground to run into down the right but opts to punt the ball upfield. Costa is the target but it is an Alaves player who gets to it first.
33'
Atletico have had a number of goalless draws in the early stages of the campaign and, on the basis of what we have seen so far, this one could end the same way. Costa has had just five touches of the ball so far.
31'
More than a third of the match has been played and we are still waiting for the first chance of any note. Atletico have been pretty poor, with Alaves the side looking the more threatening over the last 15 minutes.
29'
M. Wakaso gets yellow.
Wakaso challenges for an aerial ball with Arias and catches his opponent in the face, leading to the second booking of a flat first half.
28'
SLICED WIDE! Wakaso has a go from more than 30 yards out. The Alaves midfielder slices his long-range shot, however, and Oblak watches is sail well wide.
26'
Alaves win a corner and it drops into a dangerous position towards the back post. Atletico deal with it, but visiting boss Simeone will not be too pleased with what he is seeing so far.
24'
There is just no real tempo to Atletico's play - not for the first time this season. Alaves are looking very comfortable at the moment and are enjoying a prolonged spell on the ball.
22'
Costa has been in the wars early on. Wakaso is the latest player to catch him, leaving the former Chelsea striker unhappy. Saul then leaves out a leg to foul Wakaso, who stays down for 30 seconds or so before getting to his feet.
20'
Simeone's side have had 63 per cent of the ball in the opening 20 minutes. Alaves have grown into the contest, though, and have arguably looked the livelier of the two sides over the past few minutes.
18'
Atletico's defender have something to do for pretty much the first time today as a free-kick is floated into the area. Alaves, like Atleti, have yet to create anything of note. Joselu has a pop from range but Oblak barely breaks stride.
16'
Marcos Llorente gets yellow.
Llorente catches Perez on the calf and is rightly shown a yellow card by the referee.
15'
Arias launches a long throw into the box. It is flicked on but Alaves calmly get rid of the ball.
14'
Costa squares up to Laguardia, clearly unhappy about something. The Atletico striker appeared to be barged into, though the referee decides against awarding a free-kick.
12'
Perez attempts to play the ball in behind for Vidal, but there is too much pace on the pass.
11'
Laguardia drags Costa to the ground and Atletico have a free-kick around 15 yards inside the opposition half. Lemar floats the ball into the area but it is headed clear by an Alaves defender.
9'
Both teams have set up with a 4-4-2 formation today, as expected, and they are cancelling each other out so far. Saul headed wide from 12 yards early on but that aside there has been little action in either box.
5'
The visitors have some fresh legs in the middle of the park, with Simeone opting for Llorente and Herrera today. Atletico are knocking the ball around well and have already managed to get it into the final third a number of times.
3'
OFF TARGET! Atletico have dominated possession in the opening few minutes. The ball is worked out to the left and Lemar swings a cross into the middle, where Saul meets it but fails to keep his header on target.
1'
KICK-OFF! Atletico, aiming to climb to the top of LaLiga, get us up and running in the Basque Country!
Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the LaLiga meeting between Deportivo Alaves and Atletico Madrid at Mendizorrotza Stadium.
Atletico ended a run of three successive league draws with a 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao last Saturday through goals from Saul Niguez and Alvaro Morata. It was a timely victory for Diego Simeone's men and leaves them fourth in LaLiga, a point behind surprise leaders Granada.
ALAVES (4-4-2): Fernando Pacheco; Martin Aguirregabiria, Victor Laguardia, Lisandro Magallan, Ruben Duarte; Aleix Vidal, Manu Garcia (c), Mubarak Wakaso, Luis Rioja; Joselu, Lucas Perez.
Alaves subs: Antonio Sivera, Tomas Pina, Borja Sainz, Tachi, Oliver Burke, John Guidetti, Pere Pons.
ATLETICO (4-4-2): Jan Oblak (c); Santiago Arias, Felipe, Mario Hermoso, Renan Lodi; Saul Niguez, Hector Herrera, Marcos Llorente, Thomas Lemar; Diego Costa, Angel Correa.
Atletico subs: Kieran Trippier, Alvaro Morata, Thomas Partey, Vitolo, Antonio Adan, Rodrigo Riquelme, Koke.
Alaves are in 14th place following their 4-1 defeat to Villarreal four days ago but have won back-to-back matches on home soil, both by a 2-0 scoreline against Mallorca and Celta Vigo. Not since November last year have they won three in a row at Mendizorrotza Stadium.
The sides go into half-time level at 0-0. It has been a very flat first half, with neither team managing to create a single chance. Joselu had Deportivo Alaves' only attempt of note, while Saul headed wide inside the first two minutes from Atletico Madrid's best sight of goal.
Alaves have won their last two home games 2-0, scoring all four goals in the second half. Garitano's men have arguably had the better of things so far, giving Atletico boss Simeone plenty to think about at the break. Costa has been ineffective so we may well see Morata for the start of the second half, while Thomas and Koke are other options from the bench.
Thanks for joining our coverage today. Until next time, goodbye!
Victory for Atletico would have lifted them top of LaLiga, even if only for a couple of hours, but they can now be overtaken by Barcelona if the reigning champions see off Real Valladolid later on Tuesday. Next up for Simeone's side is a tricky trip to Sevilla on Saturday, while Alaves - up to 13th in the table - head to Osasuna on Sunday.
