Lanzini ignores a free runner on his right and lines up a shot from outside the box that is saved low by Dubravka.
88'
I. Diop gets yellow.
Diop picks up a late yellow card, making it three for West Ham on the day.
85'
M. Dúbravka gets yellow.
Dubravka is shown yellow for dissent.
84'
Felipe Anderson streaks down the left before weighting a pass into the run of Lanzini, who loses the ball but then Snodgrass gets to it and attempts a backheel goal! It's audacious, but not very effective.
81'
Lanzini pulls out all of the tricks in the box, but probably should have shot or passed a little bit sooner as Newcastle recover and clear.
79'
C. Atsu enters the game and replaces I. Hayden.
Pedro Obiang enters the game and replaces M. Noble.
Newcastle make their final substitution as Hayden makes way for Christian Atsu.
Noble, the goalscorer, is withdrawn as Obiang enters the fray for the final 10 minutes.
77'
Speculative shot by Almiron from outside the box that misses wide right of goal. Rondon would have been given the assist had that managed to go in.
76'
Perez dribbles into the box and is almost immediately dispossessed. Newcastle have shown a lot more attacking impetus in the second-half, as expected. Can they make it count?
74'
Rondon flashes some footwork outside the box before playing the ball to Almiron but the former Atlanta midfielder made his run just a little too early and is called for offside.
Minute
Description
71'
Rondon shows his strength by easily shielding the ball from Masuaku before laying the ball off.
70'
M. Arnautović enters the game and replaces J. Hernández.
Hernandez was so close to scoring multiple times, but is now withdrawn without a goal as Arnautovic takes his place on the pitch.
67'
I. Hayden gets yellow.
A. Masuaku gets yellow.
Masuaku gets shown a yellow card for pulling back Rondon.
The substitution by Rafa Benitez has caused a clear tactical change as it seems it's now a back four for Newcastle with Dummett taking up the left back spot while Ritchie moves up to play on the right wing. The manager has made his change, can the players make it work?
Hayden quickly returns the favour as he pulls back a West Ham player to prevent a dangerous counter-attack.
65'
P. Dummett enters the game and replaces F. Schär.
Another swap for Newcastle as last week's hero, Schar, is withdrawn for Dummett.
64'
Perez was briefly down on the pitch after coming into contact with Ogbanna, though it looks like both will be able to continue without issue.
60'
Snodgrass rushes down the right flank and releases an early cross towards Hernandez at the back post! The latter just wasn't quite fast, or long enough to get meaningful purchase on the ball however, and it soars above Dubravka's goal and out for a goal-kick.
57'
Lanzini was suddenly in acres of space in the box after a quick counter by West Ham, but Snodgrass just took too long with the pass which allowed Newcastle time to recover and clear.
56'
While it's hard to put a thing like this down to one player, it seems the whole Newcastle midfield has played better since the introduction of Diame.
54'
Back to the fouls now as Manquillo impedes Hernandez on the right wing.
52'
Diame surges through the West Ham midfield and, while it didn't come to anything, that's certainly something that we didn't see much of from the visitors during the first-half.
50'
West Ham get their first spell on the ball since the half and it ends as Noble plays a reverse ball... to no one and it rolls out of play for a goal-kick.
49'
Rondon plays Perez in behind the defence and he either horribly misplaced a shot, or slightly overhit a pass to the back post. Genuinely tough to tell what his intention was there but, either way, the chance goes begging.
47'
Hayden takes a speculative shot from outside the box and it trickles just wide of the far post! That was much closer than Fabianski initially realised!
46'
M. Diamé enters the game and replaces S. Longstaff.
There's been a change by Newcastle at the half as Longstaff is withdrawn in favour of Mohamed Diame.
We're back underway for the second-half!
45' +6
Nothing comes of the corner and the whistle blows for half-time.
HALF-TIME: West Ham 2-0 Newcastle United
45' +5
Almiron flashes some skill on the left before whipping a cross-field ball all the way over to Manquillo who attempts a cross that is blocked behind for a corner. Can the visitors get anything out this before half-time?
45' +3
Masuaku was found in loads of space out on the left and passed it into the feet of Hernandez in the box. The Mexican striker then attempted a back-heel that was summarily blocked and cleared by the Newcastle defence.
45' +1
Almiron fouls Snodgrass just to the right of the penalty area. Another free-kick to West Ham.
45'
There will be five minutes of added time.
42'
Penalty goal scored by M. Noble for West Ham United!
GOOALLLL!!! Noble doubles his side's lead from the penalty spot! He ran up and buried his right-footed shot into the top-left corner of the goal, hitting the roof of the net first! Excellent, excellent penalty from Noble there. West Ham 2-0 Newcastle.
40'
S. Longstaff gets yellow.
Longstaff and Snodgrass both go in for the ball, but the latter seems to have gotten the worse of it, while the former receives a yellow card.
38'
The West Ham fans boo as Newcastle continue to attack while Lanzini was laying on the pitch, but quieted a bit once their own team continued play as well.
37'
F. Schär gets yellow.
Schar blocks off Felipe Anderson on the edge of the box to prevent anything worse, and picks up a yellow for it.
35'
Lanzini makes a darting run inbetween Schar and Manquillo and is seen by Snodgrass who lofts a pass in the direction of the Argentine, only to see the pass drift out and behind for a goal-kick. That's better from the hosts!
34'
A. Masuaku enters the game and replaces A. Cresswell.
32'
Cresswell is down on the pitch and receiving attention from the trainers. It looks like he will have to come off.
31'
Felipe Anderson goes on a delightful run and just fails to connect on the final ball which was intended for Hernandez who was running into the box. Difficult for either side to get through the opposing backline thus far.
30'
Fredericks surges past Ritchie who stumbles to the floor and the referee , who deems that the latter was pushed by the West Ham man, calls for the foul.
28'
Manquillo whips a cross... directly into the chest of Cresswell who was marking him outside of the box. Newcaslte will need to be a little more creative than that if they want to find the leveller.
26'
M. Noble gets yellow.
Noble goes straight through the back of Almiron and the former is shown yellow for his actions.
25'
West Ham are dominating possession thus far (64.2 per cent) but, since the goal, neither have made anything other than speculative progress into the final third.
22'
Manquillo plays the ball into Perez who had his back to his defender in the box, but he couldn't manage to turn his man and is dispossessed trying to do so.
20'
Play has been a bit choppy since the penalty as the fouls have started to come a bit more quickly. This time it's Perez who fouls the goalscorer Rice.
18'
Now things inverse as Snodgrass gives away a dangerous free-kick to Newcastle, having fouled Ritchie outside the box.
17'
Snodgrass is fouled in the centre-circle by Ritchie who quickly scurries away before the referee gets a chance to consider booking him.
7'
D. Rice has scored a goal for West Ham United! Assist by R. Snodgrass.
Snodgrass whipped in a fantastic, curling effort from the right corner that had the perfect pace and placement to meet Rice in the air, and the latter finished the job!
Fredricks was at full-pace as he ran into the box which forced Lascelles to boot the ball out of play before anything came of it. Corner to West Ham.
GOOOALLLL!!! Rice gives West Ham the early lead! Snodgrass whipped in the cross and Rice found a bit of space in the Newcastle line, outjumped Schar, and nodded the ball down at the back post! You'd expect the Newcastle defence to handle set-pieces better than that but credit to West Ham for both the delivery and finish! West Ham 1-0 Newcastle.
5'
Manquillo wins the ball on the right side of Newcastle's defence and tries to play Perez down the line but it's a little too heavy and a West Ham defender gets to it first.
3'
Fredericks gets played in behind Ritchie on the right wing, and tries an early cross that finds the arms of Dubravka rather than Hernandez who was lurking nearby.
1'
Referee Chris Kavanagh blows his whistle and this match is underway!
An early foul on Hernandez in the final third will give West Ham an early, dangerous free-kick.
Hello, and welcome to our live coverage of this Premier League match between West Ham and Newcastle United!
That having been said, West Ham will likely still be confident considering they have lost just one of their last seven league matches at the London Stadium.
On the other hand, if there was any manager who could overturn that trend it would be Rafa Benitez who has won more Premier League matches against West Ham (11) than any other opponent.
Now let's take a look at the team news!
West Ham (4-2-3-1): Lukasz Fabianski; Ryan Fredericks, Issa Diop, Angelo Ogbonna, Aaron Cresswell; Declan Rice, Mark Noble; Robert Snodgrass, Manuel Lanzini, Felipe Anderson; Javier Hernandez.
West Ham substitutes: Adrian, Arthur Masuaku, Pedro Obiang, Michail Antonio, Samir Nasri, Marko Arnautovic, Lucas Perez.
Newcastle United (5-4-1): Martin Dubravka; Javier Manquillo, Jamaal Lascelles, Florian Lejeune, Fabian Schar, Matt Ritchie; Ayoze Perez, Isaac Hayden, Sean Longstaff, Miguel Almiron; Salomon Rondon.
Newcastle United substitutes: Karl Darlow, Paul Dummett, DeAndre Yedlin, Mohamed Diame, Ki Sung-yueng, Christian Atsu, Yoshinori Muto.
No changes from Rafa Benitez who was surely delighted after his side’s 2-0 win against Burnley last week. Schar, in particular, was fantastic midweek scoring a wonder goal and helping the club pick up a clean sheet as well. In attack, it will be interesting to see how the relationship between Rondon and Almiron continues to develop. The former, of course, leads Newcastle in goals scored this season (7), while Almiron comes into the club after being directly involved in 24 goals for MLS champions Atlanta United last season. If those three perform, Newcastle will have an excellent chance at leaving the London Stadium with all three points today.
It will be interesting to see how this match changes coming out of the half with West Ham likely to adapt a slightly more defensive approach while Newcastle will really need to open up if they are to even snatch a point from today's match. Thus far the visitors have failed to secure a single shot on target thus far and, with just three key passes in the first half, will also need to improve creatively as well. As for West Ham, they have kept fewer Premier League clean sheets (4) than everyone but Fulham (2). Can they record another shutout today, or will Newcastle find a way back into this match? We'll find out together!
That will do it for our coverage of this Premier League match between West Ham and Newcastle United. We hope you enjoyed following along, and will join us again soon!
Newcastle pushed hard in the second-half but failed to score a goal which meant a fairly simple 2-0 win for West Ham on the day. Neither side were terrific it must be said, though the hosts were better in shots on target, passes, pass accuracy, possession and, of course, goals. The finishes by Rice (7') and Noble (42') were both well taken and proved to be more than enough for West Ham to secure all three points. Newcastle, on the other hand, had been riding high coming into the day but will be left asking questions of both their defence who allowed too many goals, and their attack who failed to score any. While it's incredibly unlikely that they go down this season, Rafa Benitez' side will need to perform better if they are to avoid being dragged back into the relegation conversation.
Looking forward, West Ham will next be travelling to Wales to face relegation candidates Cardiff, and will hope that today's win will give them a bit of momentum heading into that match. As for Newcastle, they will be hoping to recover from this defeat when they host Everton at St. James' Park next week.
