HALF-TIME: AC MILAN 1-1 DUDELANGE
Good evening and welcome to our coverage of AC Milan v Dudelange from the famous San Siro stadium in Italy.
Milan come into this game joint-second in Group F with Olympiacos and one point behind leaders Real Betis. A win tonight is a must for Gennaro Gattuso’s side against the pointless Dudelange if the Rossoneri are to progress into the knockout stages.
AC MILAN (3-5-2): Jose Reina; Stefan Simic, Cristian Zapata, Andrea Bertolacci; Diego Laxalt Hakan Calhanoglu, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Alen Haliovic, Divide Calabria; Partick Cutrone, Gonzalo Higuain.
The side from Luxembourg have made history this campaign after becoming the first team from their nation to qualify for this competition. Unfortunately, this may be a level too high for them as their -10 goal difference would suggest.
SUBS: Edis Agovic, Nicolas Perez, Levan Kenia, Kevin Malget, Aniss El Hriti, Mario Pokar, Enzo Esposito.
DUDELANGE (4-4-2): Landry Bonnefoi; Jerry Prempeh, Bryan Melisse, Tom Schnell, Edisson Jordanov; Clement Couturier, Stelvio, Marc-Andre Kruska, Dominik Stolz; Danel Sinani, David Turpel.
The players make their way from the tunnel and onto the pitch as we ready for kick off.
AC Milan started the game how most would have expected them to, confident and in control. They took a deserved lead on the 21st minute after Cutrone’s left footed shot squirmed through the body of goalkeeper Bonnefoi. Dudelange grew into the game gradually however and Milan will rue their missed chances in the first half after the Luxembourg team equalised on 39 minutes with a sublime strike from Dominik Stolz.
Gattuso’s Milan desperately need a victory here tonight to keep alive their hopes of progressing in this competition. That will be easier said than done however as Dudelange will be desperate to hang onto what would be a famous result for them. Stolz’s goal was only Dudelange’s second ever Europa League goal and for some of those players a point away at the San Siro will no doubt be a career high. Milan certainly have their work cut out for them this half.
After Milan took the lead on in the first half an upset looked as though it may have been on the cards as two wonderful strikes either side of half time saw Dudelange edge in front. Two own goals either side of a fabulous Calhanoglu strike however put Milan two up and Fabio Borini rounded off the scoring as he came off the bench to make it 5-2 AC Milan.
That victory keeps Milan in second place on 10 points but more importantly it puts three points between them and Olympiakos.Dudelange remain bottom with no points but they put in a good show tonight and Real Betis will not have an easy time beating them in their next fixture.
Thank you for joining us tonight. We hope you enjoyed our commentary. Good night.
