Xhaka takes an Arsenal corner into the penalty area for Mustafi but Keane is there to clear the ball out of the penalty area. Torreira picks up possession and turns around, firing a pass back into his own half.
90' +1
The fourth official indicates there will be four minutes for stoppages at the end of the 90.
87'
Sigurdsson takes an Everton free-kick into the Arsenal penalty area and it’s punched away by Cech over the head of Keane. A nice moment between the two following the referee’s whistle for a foul as the goalkeeper goes over to make sure that the centre-back is okay due to his recent head injury; something the shot-stopper knows about well.
85'
Sigurdsson takes Everton’s ninth corner of the match and it’s punched away far too easily by Cech who has been very solid in the Arsenal goal.
83'
Bernard tees up Sigurdsson for a shot from just outside the penalty area which takes a slight deflection as it flies over. The corner is taken short before Digne’s delivery comes into the box, but it’s poor and Xhaka clears.
81'
Xhaka takes Arsenal’s corner short to Ozil who feeds it back to Iwobi. The Gunners are quite obviously running down the clock as the set-piece ends up at the foot of Holding in his own half.
80'
D. Welbeck enters the game and replaces A. Ramsey.
Danny Welbeck is Arsenal’s final participant from the bench, with Aaron Ramsey finishing the match in a watching capacity.
78'
Both players have re-entered the pitch following spells on the sidelines, as Mustafi gets involved immediately to link play between the defence and midfield. Arsenal have only 12 minutes left to hold on for what feels like a routine victory.
76'
The referee calls play to a halt as both Richarlison and Mustafi are down rolling in agony. The two clashed on the edge of the Arsenal penalty area with the Everton player holding his head, and the Gunners defender holding a very sensitive area near his legs.
Minute
Description
74'
Silva has changed two of the four attackers in the starting XI and they have just shy of 20 minutes to make their mark as neither Bernard nor Tosun have scored this season for the Toffees.
72'
C. Tosun enters the game and replaces D. Calvert-Lewin.
Bernard enters the game and replaces T. Walcott.
Theo Walcott won’t score against his old team as he is substituted out for Bernard.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s match ends at the 72nd minute as he is removed in favour of Cenk Tosun.
71'
Sigurdsson’s free-kick is inch-perfect in finding the head of Richarlison, but Cech gets down well and scoops the ball out for a corner. Fantastic save by the goalkeeper who has been Arsenal’s best player today!
70'
Everton have a free-kick in a good position just outside the penalty area on the left. Sigurdsson and Digne wait over the dead ball.
69'
A. Iwobi enters the game and replaces P. Aubameyang.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is replaced by Alex Iwobi with 21 minutes remaining in the match.
65'
How will Everton respond after going two goals behind? They haven’t seemed themselves since conceding, as Arsenal’s lead has afforded them the opportunity to defend slightly deeper and leave fewer gaps exposed.
61'
It’s proven to be a highly controversial second goal, as it seems quite apparent that Aubameyang was in an offside position while receiving the pass from Ramsey. The linesman’s flag stayed down, however, and the goal stands.
59'
P. Aubameyang has scored a goal for Arsenal! Assist by A. Ramsey.
ARSENAL WALK IT INTO THE NET FOR 2-0! Ozil breaks free into the Everton half virtually unmarked and sends a pass across the face of goal for Ramsey who lay in wait. The delivery is perfect, but the Arsenal midfielder can’t get the ball out of his feet – opting instead to play a lovely back-heel ball for Aubameyang who is also present, by the far post. From there, the Gabon international curls it past Pickford! 2-0!
Aaron Ramsey gets his second assist of the day for his pass to Aubameyang, however, if he could have, I’m sure the midfielder would have rather slotted it in for a goal himself.
58'
It’s some relief for the Arsenal fans who only moments before the goal were complaining about the lack of a penalty call. That should ease their nerves, as well as those of the players.
56'
A. Lacazette has scored a goal for Arsenal! Assist by A. Ramsey.
Aaron Ramsey makes an impact on the game with an assist for Lacazette’s goal; a crafty, splitting pass to his left-hand side.
LACAZETTE GIVES THE HOSTS THE LEAD! Ramsey passes it to his left for the Arsenal striker who takes a touch to set himself in the penalty area before dispatching a wonderful curled effort into the top corner. Pickford had no chance with that strike, it was hit with absolute perfection! 1-0 to the hosts!
55'
The Arsenal players are furious as it appears as though Aubameyang’s far-post header was stopped by an Everton hand. Perhaps the defenders’ close proximity to the striker was a factor, but the referee advises play to continue.
54'
Richarlison fires in a cross from the right for Calvert-Lewin but Mustafi is there to get a powerful clearing header on the delivery. Everton have looked very bright since the restart, catching both Ozil and Holding in possession.
52'
Davies is unable to read the intentions of Sigurdsson and Walcott, both of whom stop their run into the box just as the Everton captain hits a defence-splitting pass which rolls out for a goal-kick.
50'
Ozil takes an out-swinging corner to the edge of the area for Ramsey who connects with it with a wonderfully coordinated first-time volley, but the shot falls into the lap of Pickford who smothers it immediately.
48'
Davies uses some quick footwork to get past Monreal before sending a leading pass forward for Richarlison who is unable to remain onside right in front of the fourth official.
46'
Arsenal get the match restarted from the kick-off!
45' +3
HALF-TIME: ARSENAL 0-0 EVERTON.
45' +2
Digne is down after a clash with Torreira – much to the disgust of Silva in the Everton technical area who is reminding the fourth official that the Arsenal midfielder has already been booked. It did seem a nasty challenge, but probably not enough for a second yellow.
45' +1
The referee indicates there will be an additional three minutes at the end of the first half for stoppages.
45'
Cech gets his fingertips to a Richarlison shot after a wonderful cross-field switch by Sigurdsson gets the Brazil forward in a position to charge into the penalty area. Everton have a corner taken by the Iceland captain, though it flies past the back post and out for an Everton throw after it takes a touch in the box.
43'
Calvert-Lewin is in the right position on the penalty spot to get to an Arsenal corner first and head it clear of his penalty area, though the ball remains inside the Everton half with Torreira.
42'
Aubameyang puts a lazy, lofted cross in from the right which Pickford doesn’t react to immediately, however, the delivery smashes off the top of the crossbar and comes back into play, much to the horror of Pickford. The Everton defence remain on their toes however and get the ball clear.
40'
Play is brought to a halt after Walcott’s chance as the Everton and former Arsenal winger has taken a nasty knock to the eye which is swelling and looking quite bruised.
39'
R. Holding enters the game and replaces S. Papastathopoulos.
There will be an early enforced change, though it is not to Mustafi, but his centre-back partner. Sokratis is removed after being seemingly unable to shake off an earlier knock. Rob Holding is his replacement.
38'
Walcott gets into the penalty area after a wonderful pass down the flank from Sigurdsson but once again Cech sprints off his line and makes himself big in order to smother the shot.
34'
Play is stopped as Mustafi is down on the field writhing in pain after an aerial duel with Calvert-Lewin. It seems to be a problem with the defender’s knee, but he has managed to very gingerly rise to his feet and re-enter the match. He’s still limping somewhat, but the Arsenal coaching staff will be hoping he can make it to the half-time whistle at least.
32'
Last-ditch defending by Keane and Digne who put the ball out for an Arsenal throw after a nervy moment in their penalty area in which Ozil’s pass for Ramsey on the penalty spot almost led to the opening goal - had it not been for the hurried intervention of the Everton centre-back.
31'
That’s much better from Digne who uses his left to aim for the near post, but Cech moves across his line and volleys the ball over the bar for a corner. The set-piece is cleared well by Xhaka immediately after entering the penalty area.
30'
S. Papastathopoulos gets yellow.
Sokratis is shown a yellow card for bringing down Walcott with a sliding challenge in order to stop a promising Everton attack. The Toffees once again have a free-kick in a dangerous position.
29'
CLOSE FROM RICHARLISON! The forward receives a pass from Digne and turns Torreira before entering the box and attempting to curl a low shot into the far corner – but he narrowly misses his intended target. Positive signs from Everton more than halfway through the first-half of play.
27'
L. Digne gets yellow.
Lucas Digne picks up Everton’s first yellow card of the match after bringing down Aubameyang to stop the Arsenal counter-attack following the away side’s failed free-kick.
26'
It’s a very poor free-kick routine from Everton who have a chance in a great area wasted. Sigurdsson lays the ball off to Digne who attempts to return it but loses it in the process. The away side must make more of their set-pieces, an area that Arsenal traditionally have a hard time defending against.
25'
Digne’s corner is a disappointment as he fails to trouble Cech who can catch the set-piece without having to move.
23'
The corner is taken to the back post but Cech does well to lay out and tip the ball over the bar for a second set-piece which is curled right into the hands of the goalkeeper who asserts his dominance over the crowd.
21'
Cech beats a Richarlison strike away for a corner-kick after receiving a Walcott cross-field pass and using his strength to get past Bellerin. Digne will take the set-piece.
20'
Everton are looking very good on the counter-attack, exposing the space left by Arsenal’s full-backs who are pressing very high up the pitch to act as auxiliary attackers. The passing has been precise by the away side, but the final delivery has been just short of what’s required in the opening 20 minutes. Still, Silva should be very pleased.
18'
Sigurdsson lofts a free-kick to the back post for Richarlison whose first touch takes him towards the corner flag. The defending is tight from Monreal and the Everton player is forced to roll the ball out of play for a Cech goal-kick.
17'
Aubameyang’s run down the left ends thanks to a necessary interception by Sigurdsson after the striker put the ball through Kenny’s legs to continue the move. The Gabon international has been quite open on the left so far.
15'
L. Torreira gets yellow.
It’s a yellow card for Lucas Torreira in his first Premier League start for Arsenal – a well-deserved booking for a two-footed slide tackle on Sigurdsson.
14'
Richarlison does his defensive work and nicks the ball from the feet of Bellerin who is constantly taking up very attacking positions on the right. Everton are a much better side when the Brazil forward is in the line-up, and his confidence should be sky-high after receiving his first call-up to the Selecao.
12'
PICKFORD POINT-BLANK SAVE! After the ball bobbles around in the penalty area following a cross from Bellerin, Monreal gets a boot to the ball and directs it towards the goalkeeper who flings himself into action to make the stop. The Arsenal full-back didn’t get a clean strike, but it is still a fantastic stop to keep the sides level.
10'
Everton are pressing quite high up the pitch, looking to catch the Arsenal midfield holding on to the ball too long. It almost worked moments ago as Xhaka was not aware of the danger. The Toffees are looking much better than they did at this stage last week.
8'
Xhaka almost has his pocket picked in front of the Arsenal penalty by Gueye and to get around the pressure, he passes it directly to the right wing where Walcott lies in wait. He puts a low cross into the box but it misses his team-mates and goes out for a goal-kick.
6'
Aubameyang crosses the ball into the box from the left but Zouma is there to volley it clear, winning a free-kick in the process as his shot strikes the outstretched arm of Ramsey.
4'
Injuries to Coleman and Jagielka have given young Davies a chance to captain his side at the Emirates. The Everton youth product has been a regular member of match-day squads since his debut in 2015.
2'
EXCELLENT SAVE FROM CECH! Calvert-Lewin stays onside and gets into the penalty area, opting to try and round the goalkeeper before passing it into an empty net, but the Arsenal shot-stopper spreads his body well to make a crucial block.
1'
Everton get the match underway from the kick-off!
Unai Emery’s start to life as Wenger’s replacement was not as hoped, with losses against Manchester City and Chelsea to open the season. Since then, three Premier League victories on the bounce have brought Arsenal up the table into ninth place – though a win today could lift them into a tie with rivals Tottenham for fifth.
A different manager, but a reoccurrence of the same problems for the hosts as they are finding it extremely difficult to defend. Arsenal have conceded nine times in their opening five matches in the Premier League, more than Newcastle who find themselves in the relegation zone.
A win and three draws left Everton undefeated after the first month of action, though last weekend’s disappointing loss to West Ham at Goodison Park erased much of the feel-good factor after a flat home performance in which Silva’s side were never really in it. A win today would be quite the coup for the Merseyside club who completely and totally battered by Arsenal last year; losing both matches by an aggregate score of 10-3.
It should come as some consolation to Arsenal supporters that Everton share a similar problem – the inability to keep solid at the back. The Toffees have also allowed nine goals in their five matches after a poor defensive showing last week and have yet to keep a clean sheet.
Arsenal Starting XI (4-2-3-1): Petr Cech; Hector Bellerin, Shkodran Mustafi, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Nacho Monreal; Lucas Torreira, Granit Xhaka; Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang; Alexandre Lacazette.
With 15 minutes to go before kick-off, the team news has been confirmed! Let's begin with the home side!
Marco Silva makes two changes to the line-up that fell 3-1 to West Ham at Goodison Park. In defence, Keane has recovered from his head injury and is fit enough to take the place of Mason Holgate, while Richarlison makes his awaited return to the XI after serving a suspension. He will be replacing Tosun.
Despite a host of injury concerns, Unai Emery only makes one change to the starting XI that beat Newcastle 2-1 last weekend, with Lucas Torreira earning a first Premier League start – replacing Matteo Guendouzi.
Everton Starting XI (4-2-3-1): Jordan Pickford; Lucas Digne, Michael Keane, Kurt Zouma, Jonjoe Kenny; Tom Davies, Idrissa Gana Gueye; Richarlison, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Theo Walcott; Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Arsenal Substitutes: Bernd Leno, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Rob Holding, Mohamed Elneny, Matteo Guendouzi, Alex Iwobi, Danny Welbeck.
Hello and welcome to our LIVE commentary of the Premier League fixture between Arsenal and Everton at the Emirates Stadium!
It was a very enjoyable first half of football despite the lack of goals, as both sides are getting forward with intent and putting their opposite defence under intense pressure. Arsenal have, as the home team, done a better job of dictating play and holding possession, though they are not opposed to lightning-quick counter-attacks – the likes of which almost led to a goal had Ozil’s pass reached Ramsey in the penalty area.
Everton for their part have also looked very bright. The limp display against West Ham seems like ages ago as the Toffees have pressed and harried their opponents for the entirety of the first 45 minutes and looked very dangerous when attacking down the flanks. Walcott and Richarlison have been bright getting into good positions, however, the final delivery is lacking slightly. Both of these sides have had more than enough chances to score, so it appears the 0-0 will not hold for much longer.
Arsenal will look to continue their winning run on Wednesday as they host Brentford in the League Cup. Everton’s next chance to get a win will be on Saturday when they host Fulham in the Premier League.
Everton looked fantastic in the opening half and probably should have scored during their positive spell. After going behind, however, they became slightly disjointed and much less free-flowing. The pressure of the comeback proved too much for the Toffees who slump to their second defeat in as many matches. The introduction of Bernard and Tosun late into the match improved things slightly, but it was too little too late.
It took only 10 minutes after the restart for the match to get the goal it deserved, a wonderful curled effort by Alexandre Lacazette which proved to be the winner. Aubameyang’s lead-doubling finish three minutes later should have been disallowed due to offside, however, the linesman did not raise his flag and allowed the goal to stand. That gave Arsenal an unassailable lead, which they protected relatively comfortably for the final half hour.
That concludes our coverage of the Premier League fixture between Arsenal and Everton. We hope you enjoyed our commentary!
