There's the final whistle! It ends all square at Anfield.
90' +4
Milner does well to stop Tadic advancing down the left before launching a Liverpool break. Firmino tries to dribble through the Southampton defence and into the box. His theatrical trouble doesn't make the referee blow for a free-kick though.
90' +2
R. Bertrand gets yellow.
WHAT A SAVE! Milner's delivery into the box picks out Grujic and the Serbian's powerful header is tipped over following a brilliant reaction stop from Forster! Sensational goalkeeping.
Bertrand goes into the book for kicking the ball away with Liverpool hoping to take a quick throw-in deep inside the Southampton half.
90' +1
We are into the first of four added minutes.
89'
D. Lovren gets yellow.
MADNESS FROM MIGNOLET! The keeper rushes off his line to deal with a bouncing ball and he doesn't appear to notice Tadic arriving. Mignolet may well have handled outside the box in the process, but he is let off the hook as the officials don't spot it and Lovren and Milner mop up the danger.
Lovren is booked for a deliberate handball as Tadic tried to release Cedric down the right wing.
88'
Can launches a shot towards goal from 25-yards that clearly takes a deflection off Yoshida on its way behind. However, the officials on the pitch give a goal-kick and Klopp is livid!
87'
M. Grujić enters the game and replaces G. Wijnaldum.
Klopp's last roll of the dice sees the inexperienced Grujic take Wijnaldum's place in midfield.
86'
Cedric clips the ball to the back post where Bertrand runs onto it. An awkward bounce seems to stop him from shooting first time and Clyne is able to get in the way with a vital block.
85'
LALLANA! Southampton have everyone bar Long behind the ball defending, but Lallana is given space to shoot from 20 yards. He arrows the ball towards the bottom-left corner and once more Forster is down there to keep it out.
83'
Excellent covering from Redmond! Things are becoming increasingly stretched at Anfield, with Firmino trying to orchestrate something through a one-two with Wijnaldum only for the Southampton winger to charge back and intercept.
Minute
Description
81'
Saints have a great chance on the counter-attack with a two-on-one but Tadic's cross into the box for Long is too deep, and the move loses momentum. Liverpool go back up the other end and Sturridge flashes a powerful drive narrowly wide.
80'
Lallana has been superb since coming on! This time he rolls an excellent pass down the left-hand channel or the run of Milner. He drives in and looks to cut the ball back to the penalty spot, but an important interception sees it out for a goal-kick.
78'
STURRIDGE! Firmino comes in from the right and feeds Lallana, who sends a first-time pass to Sturridge. He beats Ward-Prowse and Stephens but has to stretch for a toe-poke that Forster is equal to. Liverpool are stepping up their search for a winner!
77'
OPTA STAT: Milner has failed to score a penalty for the first time since November 2009 in Aston Villa's match against Bolton.
76'
COUTINHO! It just wasn't far enough into the corner! Lallana releases Sturridge on the left and he gets his head up to pick out Coutinho ont he end of the box. The Brazilian looks to curl a shot beyond Forster but isn't precise enough and Forster saves again.
75'
Southampton launch a quick break through Redmond down the left but after he checks back inside his attempted delivery is cleared by the first man.
74'
Redmond tries his luck from 25 yards but his shot is nowhere near giving Mignolet something to think about. Southampton have been poor in the final third today.
73'
Matip sends a long ball up from the back looking for Sturridge, but Stephens and Yoshida combine to deal with it and play it back to Forster. The goalkeeper's drop-kick sees Tadic challenge Milner, with the latter penalised for a foul.
71'
OPTA STAT: Sturridge has played just 1316 minutes of Premier League football since Klopp took over as Liverpool manager – just 22 per cent of the possible minutes during this time and less than 17 other Liverpool players.
69'
S. Long enters the game and replaces M. Gabbiadini.
D. Sturridge enters the game and replaces D. Origi.
A. Lallana enters the game and replaces Lucas Leiva.
A couple of positive changes from Klopp. The first sees Lallana replace Lucas.
Gabbidaini goes off for Long, who will provide some extra pace on the break.
A roar from the Liverpool fans as Sturridge takes the place of Origi.
68'
Coutinho dribbles towards the box and attempts a one-two with Lucas, but with so many Southampton shirts around them the attack quickly breaks down.
66'
Penalty saved by F. Forster!
It wasn't quite in the corner from Milner, but Forster did superbly to keep that out!
FORSTER SAVES IT!! Milner strikes the penalty low and hard towards the bottom-left corner but Forster gets down there with a strong hand to push it away from goal!
65'
J. Ward-Prowse gets yellow.
Cédric Soares gets yellow.
Ward-Prowse is booked for an attempt at gamesmanship with Milner preparing to take the penalty.
Cedric goes into the book for his complaints about the penalty decision.
64'
PENALTY TO LIVERPOOL! Lucas lifts the ball into the box and Origi controls it on his chest under pressure from Stephens. The ball loops up and Stephens catches it with his elbow as he spins to get back into position!
62'
Liverpool seem to have lost the energy with which they started the second half and are allowing Southampton to get comfortable in possession. Klopp could probably do with making a change soon, and Lallana and Sturridge provide decent options from the bench.
60'
N. Redmond enters the game and replaces S. Boufal.
Claude Puel makes his first substitution, sending Redmond on for Boufal.
Can must be high on confidence after his stunning goal at Watford, but he slices a wild shot miles wide from 25 yards here!
59'
Can fizzes a pass to the feet of Coutinho at the top of the box and the Brazilian flicks it on to Origi equisitely. Origi attempts to do the same and move it on to Firmino but he fails to connect!
58'
FACT: Klopp is yet to win in three Premier League matches against Southampton, drawing two and losing once.
56'
Play gets back underway and Romeu jogs back on after some medical attention. He looked to have felt the full force of that blow!
55'
The referee stops the game after Romeu is left on the floor following a collision with Matip. He ran straight into the Cameroonian and wasn't really looking where he was going and his chin connected with the defender's back. After Gabbiadini failed to make the most of the advantage play was pulled back.
53'
Another wayward diagonal pass from Liverpool flies out of play without another red shirt touching it. Their approach and execution has not changed since the interval, though they do seem to be putting Saints under more pressure in possession.
51'
Clyne is picked out on the right and throws a dummy at Bertrand before drilling the ball into the middle. It's straight at Forster, who doesn't have to move in order to take it in his arms.
49'
The Kop lets out a huge collective sigh as the assistant referee signals for a goal-kick rather than a corner after Lucas' surge to the byline. He clearly thought the Brazilian overran it under pressure from the Saints defence.
47'
IMPORTANT BLOCK! A long throw-in to Tadic at the near post is controlled well by the Serbian, and he spins to fire a cutback towards the middle. Matip's touch is loose and Boufal pounces. He looks sure to have a chance to shoot from inside the six-yard box until Can slides in to give the corner.
46'
Liverpool get the second half going.
45' +1
Liverpool fail in their attempts to create on final chance before the half-time whistle is sounded!
45'
We are going to have a minimum of one added minute at Anfield.
43'
Origi sets off down the right, knocking the ball past Cedric and chasing it himself. Romeu gets back and leaps in with an excellent tackle to concede a corner.
42'
It's another effort from distance by Liverpool, this time by Can. The result is the same, with Forster not really tested and able to make a routine save.
40'
The Liverpool fans aren't happy Boufal gets away with what they deem a foul on Clyne. Saints attempt a counter-attack but Matip stops Cedric from racing free on the right, though he is unable to keep the ball in play.
38'
Matip tries to pull the strings with Southampton not closing him in possession, but his attempt to arrow a pass out to the left runs behind for a goal-kick. Southampton will be happy with that!
36'
Gabbiadini goes in needlessly hard on Matip inside the Liverpool box and walks away from referee Bobby Madley as he tries to calm him back for a discussion. Lucas ends up pushing him back towards the official, with Davis invited to listen in too!
34'
Firmino shakes off Ward-Prowse and bears down on goal before unleasing a low 20-yard shot towards the bottom-left corner. It lacks the pace to test Forster, who drops down and saves it.
33'
Tadic lets out a yelp as he goes down under pressure from Can and Lucas, the latter rushing back and seeming to catch him on his shin. There wasn't much in it, though, and Klopp sprays his water all over the place in frustration after Southamtpon are awarded a free-kick!
31'
OPTA STAT: Prior to kick-off Klopp had an identical record to Brendan Rodgers in his first 65 Premier League games in charge of Liverpool: W33 D18 L14, winning 117 points.
29'
Southampton make a rare trip out of their own half and a cross into the middle is just too far ahead of Gabbiadini. Cedric wins a corner and the referee sees some pushing and shoving so awards Liverpool a free-kick.
27'
Liverpool work the ball out to the right for Clyne well, and he rolls it inside for the run of Wijnaldum. The Dutchman makes a charge for the byline but is penalised for a foul and is he tries to squeeze between two Southampton shirts.
25'
A great pass from Coutinho nearly releases Origi but the striker's first touch is pounced upon by Yoshida, and in his attempts to win it back he commits a foul on the defender.
24'
Coutinho pulls the trigger from 25 yards but his shot is too close to Forster and at a comfortable height for him to make a routine save.
23'
It's all Liverpool now. They're controlling possession and the only side looking to create openings, with Southampton struggling to formulate attacks on the break.
21'
Coutinho plays a one-two with Wijnaldum before offloading to Milner on the left. He swings the ball into the box but it's a routine one for Forster to come off his line and pluck down.
20'
Excellent defending from Clyne! The right-back is given a hearty round of applause from the Anfield faithful after chasing back and showing strength to get Boufal off the ball.
19'
Liverpool again get some joy down the left, with Firmino getting to the byline and pulling a great cross back towards the penalty spot. There aren't many of his team-mates up in support and Davis is able to head away.
17'
Matip has impressed when stepping out from the back with the ball at his feet. This time, though, his attempt to cut the Saints defence open ends up running out of play for a goal-kick. His efforts are applauded by Klopp.
15'
CHANCE! Romeu is caught in possession on the edge of the area by Firmino, who works it into a shooting position with a couple of touches. He attempts to guide the ball into the far corner but Yoshida gets back to make an important block.
13'
Milner stands an excellent cross up at the back post, where Wijnaldum is unable to make a meaningful contact and Forster is able to collect the second ball comfortably.
12'
Play resumes with Milner stood on one foot near the dugouts as a member of the Liverpool staff tightens his studs!
11'
Clyne has stayed down after being caught on the follow-through by Bertrand, who beat him to Firmino's pass and sent it clear for a throw-in. The right-back is soon back to his feet and jogging back into position.
9'
Liverpool are also proving very patient in possession now. Lucas tried to clip a ball over the top to Origi and Yoshida reads it, while Can's lofted delivery for the run of Clyne ends up floating behind.
7'
Gabbiadini plays a nice pass out to Tadic on the right and the Serbian sees his delivery blocked by Lovren. Cedric is unable to retain possession from the throw-in under pressure from Milner, and Liverpool quickly get the ball back out of their half.
5'
Matip steps out from the back and intercepts a pass. He bides his time before releasing Origi down the right, with Bertrand racing back and managing to get the ball off the Belgian and out for a goal-kick.
4'
Clyne makes his first foray forward on the right but fails to pick out a team-mate with his cross into the box. Southampton aren't rushing in possession, they're happy to knock it across the park and take their time.
2'
Wijnaldum gives the ball away inside the Southampton half and Gabbiadini races away down the left. The Dutchman chases back and helps his defence deal with the threat.
1'
Southampton get the ball rolling!
Hello and welcome to today's live coverage of the Premier League meeting between Liverpool and Southampton at Anfield!
This is an important match for Liverpool's Champions League hopes. Manchester City's thumping 5-0 victory over Crystal Palace yesterday set them down to fourth, with Manchester United - who play later today - four points back and still possessing a game in hand. Arsenal, United's opponents, are also in the hunt nine points back of Liverpool having played two games fewer. It's fair to say things are pretty tight!
The teams have been confirmed, so here's how they will be shaping up today...
Liverpool (4-3-3): Simon Mignolet; Nathaniel Clyne, Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren, James Milner; Lucas Leiva, Giorginio Wijnaldum, Emre Can; Roberto Firmino, Divock Origi, Philippe Coutinho.
Liverpool bench: Loris Karius, Ragnar Klavan, Alberto Moreno, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Marko Grujic, Adam Lallana, Daniel Sturridge.
Southampton (4-2-3-1): Fraser Forster; Cedric, Jack Stephens, Maya Yoshida, Ryan Bertrand; Steven Davis, Oriol Romeu; James Ward-Prowse, Dusan Tadic, Sofiane Boufal; Manolo Gabbiadini.
Southampton bench: Mouez Hassan, Jeremy Pied, Martin Caceres, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Nathan Redmond, Shane Long, Jay Rodriguez.
That's an unchanged XI from Jurgen Klopp, keeping faith with the side that saw off Watford 1-0 thanks to Can's stunning overhead kick. There's one alteration for Southampton from the 0-0 draw against Hull as Ward-Prowse comes in for Redmond.
Liverpool are yet to score a goal in their three matches against Southampton this season, drawing 0-0 in the Premier League and losing both legs of their EFL Cup semi-final 1-0. Let's hope the ball finds the net a few more times today!
The teams are out on the pitch, so kick-off will be upon us in a few short moments!
HALF-TIME - Liverpool 0-0 Southampton: It remains deadlocked at the interval in a match that has been starved of goal-mouth action. Liverpool have had the better opportunities but none of those have given Forster too much cause for concern. With their top-four hopes in the balance, they will need to step things up against the resilient Saints after the restart. Stay tuned!
The teams are back out, so the second half will be underway shortly.
FULL-TIME - Liverpool 0-0 Southampton: Klopp's men suffer a blow to their top-four ambitions with Milner's failure to score a penalty potentially cositng them more than just two points in the long run. Liverpool are now winless in their last three home matches and their Champions League hopes are gradually getting chipped away at.
Southampton rarely tested Mignolet but can be proud of their battling performance against one of the league's top sides. That's all for today, thanks for joining us.
