We're off! Arsenal get us underway, attacking from right to left.
Good afternoon and welcome to our live text commentary of today’s FA Cup semi-final between Arsenal and Manchester City at Wembley.
With Chelsea through thanks to yesterday’s action-packed win against Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal will be aiming to make this season’s FA Cup final the first all-London affair since 2002, when the Gunners won the Double with a 2-0 victory against the Blues. They’ll have to be at their very best today though, as it’s been a disappointing and demoralising few weeks for Arsene Wenger’s men.
Question marks remain over Wenger’s future heading into the final stretch of the season, and they will only intensify if they crash out of the competition this afternoon. Arsenal have managed to win just three of their previous eight games in all competitions, with Middlesbrough narrowly beating beaten on Monday evening. They haven’t won against a current top-half side since September, although they did hold City to a 2-2 draw in their previous meeting at the start of the month.
As for City, their hunt for Champions League qualification was given a boost last weekend thanks to a comfortable win away to Southampton. It means they’ve now won back-to-back clashes for the first time since the start of March, with those victories bringing to an end what was starting to look like a slightly worrying four-game winless run.
Both sides enjoyed comfortable wins in the previous round of the competition, with Arsenal thrashing minnows Lincoln City and their opponents today seeing off Middlesbrough away from home. They’ve also enjoyed a relatively even record against one another in recent years, with one win each and two draws coming from the previous four meetings between the two.
Manchester City XI (4-2-3-1): Bravo; Navas, Kompany, Otamendi, Clichy; Toure, Fernandinho; De Bruyne, Silva, Sane; Aguero.
Arsenal substitutes: Martinez, Gibbs, Bellerin, Coquelin, Iwobi, Walcott, Welbeck.
Arsenal XI (3-4-2-1): Cech; Gabriel, Koscielny, Holding; Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ramsey, Xhaka, Monreal; Ozil, Sanchez; Giroud.
There’s just over 15 minutes left to go until kick-off, so let’s have a look at how the two teams will be lining up this afternoon…
Manchester City substitutes: Caballero, Zabaleta, Kolarov, Fernando, Delph, Sterling, Iheanacho.
Arsene Wenger has decided to name an unchanged Arsenal side to the one that started the victory against Middlesbrough, with Gabriel, Laurent Koscielny and Rob Holding once again featuring in a three-man defence.
Meanwhile, City boss Pep Guardiola has also named an unchanged side to the one that featured in their last outing, with Vincent Kompany featuring in back-to-back games for the first time since the end of October.
The two sides are making their way out onto the pitch, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off.
HALF-TIME: ARSENAL 0-0 MANCHESTER CITY
City have looked the better of the two sides and have enjoyed the vast majority of possession, but, so far, they have nothing to show for their efforts. Despite being on the back foot, Arsenal have been presented with a few decent chances of their own, and they look set up to hit their opponents on the break with long balls forward. The City defence haven't looked entirely comfortably when trying to deal with them, and that could continue to be a problem in the second half.
The two teams are making their way back out on to the pitch ahead of the start of the second half. Neither side have made any substitutions during the half-time break.
HALF-TIME: ARSENAL 2-1 MANCHESTER CITY
Arsenal have continued to impress, as they did in the second half of normal time, and they deservedly lead thanks to a great finish from Sanchez. City have really struggled to carve out many chances, with Aguero's removal really hurting them.
The referee blows his whistle and brings an end to normal time, sending what has been an exciting contest into extra-time.
Arsenal performed much better during the first half than did before the break, and they certainly deserved such a well-worked equaliser. City will feel incredibly frustrated at not being able to score again though, as they twice went close only to be denied by the woodwork.
FULL-TIME: ARSENAL 2-1 MANCHESTER CITY
For City, the defeat goes down as a huge disappointment. They were the better of the two sides in the first half but struggled after the break, despite hitting the woodwork twice. They lacked firepower and creativity after the removal of Aguero and struggled with set-pieces, which would eventually prove to be their undoing.
The referee blows his whistle for the last time and sends Arsenal into the final of the FA Cup for the third time in four years! The Gunners certainly deserve to be in it after performing incredibly well from the second half onwards, and they defended admirably to keep City at bay after taking the lead through Sanchez.
