Boateng, of all people, tries his luck from the top of the area, but it's well over the crossbar. This has been a wonderful display from Bayern Munich, with their new signings bedding in nicely.
87'
Douglas Costa has scored a goal for Bayern Munich! Assist by Rafinha.
THAT'S FIVE! Ostrzolek shepherds the ball but falls over. Thinking he was fouled, he pulls up, but that only allows Douglas Costa the time to steal in and slam a neat shot into the bottom corner from the top of the box!
85'
Bayern are still making runs, still looking to penetrate for another goal. Hamburg just look battered and weary and desperate for the final whistle. Five minutes plus change to go.
83'
Douglas Costa has enjoyed himself on the wings today, and he cuts in from the right to curl one towards the far corner, which has Adler guessing, but ultimately floats wide of the mark. Still, a round of applause from the Bayern faithful for their new signing.
81'
Vidal plays the ball into Muller at the top of the box, and he executes a clever flick to put it into the path of Lewandowski. However, the linesman raises his flag to chalk off the play.
79'
Alaba has not been shy in having a pop from long range, and he forces another sprawling save from Adler with a 20-yard rocket. Just over 10 minutes to go and I smell a fifth goal.
77'
Hamburg's miserable time at the Allianz Arena continues as they've now conceded 35 goals and counting in their last six visits. Should they just write this fixture off every year, then? Best to get it out of the way early.
75'
This could get nasty for Hamburg. Bayern look in the mood, and credit must go to them for not sitting on their advantage when the score was at 2-0. This is the kind of hunger that Guardiola will want to maintain for the rest of the season.
73'
T. Müller has scored a goal for Bayern Munich! Assist by R. Lewandowski.
MULLER STRIKES GOLD AGAIN! A perfectly-timed run through the centre from the German, a deft shift of direction to round Adler and a clinical finish buried into the empty net despite bodies converging around his path!
72'
Thiago Alcântara enters the game and replaces P. Lahm.
Bayern reply in kind with a stinger of their own as Vidal's piledriver is just the wrong side of the post! An audible gasp from the crowd as that one nearly went in. Would have been a fine cap to his league debut.
Minute
Description
71'
A reminder that there's another team competing in this game as Gregoritsch forces Neuer to tip over the bar after trying his luck from at least 25 yards out. Two saves for the Bayern keeper in this match now.
69'
M. Díaz enters the game and replaces I. Iličević.
P. Lasogga enters the game and replaces S. Schipplock.
T. Müller has scored a goal for Bayern Munich! Assist by Douglas Costa.
MULLER MAKES IT THREE! Bayern sweep through the Hamburg ranks, and Douglas Costa is freed down the right, lifting a cross towards the near post that Muller heads home after a typically ghosting run.
67'
Vidal nearly picks out Lewandowski in a great position, but the Polish striker is just a little too behind the pass and can't attack it. The Chile midfielder has enjoyed a tidy Bundesliga debut for his new club.
65'
M. Götze enters the game and replaces A. Robben.
Robben goes off to a standing ovation and a smack of appreciation on the rear by Guardiola. His replacement is Mario Gotze, who has seen his name in and out of the papers with rumours of his departure from Bayern.
63'
NEARLY A THIRD FOR THE HOME SIDE! Rafinha uses his fresh legs to charge through the middle, but his cannon of a shot is blocked with a strong hand by Adler! Alaba can't get in position for the follow-up.
61'
I. Olić enters the game and replaces A. Ekdal.
Hamburg have barely crossed the halfway line in this half, and have not troubled Neuer since Schipplock's effort in the opening minutes of the game. You can't really fault them, it is Bayern after all.
59'
Lewandowski misses a connection on a cross before the flag is raised for an offside. Meanwhile, HSV plot a substitution, with Labbadia set to haul off Ekdal and introduce Olic.
57'
Alonso has had himself an accomplished game at the base of the midfield, but his evening is at an end, with Rafinha coming on. We may see Alaba or Lahm move up into the midfield now with Rafinha slotting into the back three.
56'
Rafinha enters the game and replaces Xabi Alonso.
Hamburg are in all kinds of trouble now. They have no choice but to go for it, but that only opens then up to damage on the counter from Guardiola's men. Speaking of the Spaniard, he looks to be readying a change...
55'
Ambitious there from Alonso, who spots Adler off his line and tries to chip him from near the halfway line. We've seen the Spaniard pull this off in the past of course, but this time, he's just a foot or two over the top of the bar.
53'
R. Lewandowski has scored a goal for Bayern Munich!
LEWANDOWSKI ADDS A SECOND! Alonso hoists a long ball into the area, and Muller has Ostrzolek draped all over him. The HSV full-back succeeds in beating him to the ball, but he only heads it as far as Lewandowski, who smashes home from inside the area.
50'
The set-piece is curled in towards Adler's bottom corner by Alaba, but the German keeper pushes it wide. It's a save that you would have expected him to make, and he did well to get good distance on his parry.
48'
Lewandowski hasn't exactly been handled with care by the Hamburg defence. Spahic comes in with a late tread on the striker's toes. It wasn't malicious, but it still looked painful. Free-kick to the hosts in a decent spot.
46'
Here we go again!
45'
ALABA! Right on the cusp of half-time, the Austrian nearly adds a second for his side. Hamburg can't clear Lahm's cross, and he latches onto it with a thunderous effort from the top of the box that flashes a foot or two wide of the top corner! And that will do it for the first half!
43'
Bayern have had no problem finding their man on the wing, but it's the purpose with which the men in the box have attacked the crosses which has really underwhelmed. That has had something to do with Hamburg's tight marking though.
41'
Another testy foul in midfield, and the referee has to step in to pull both sets of players apart. I highly doubt that the bookings are done in this game, as the expressions on some of the players' faces are furious!
39'
The crowd are starting to get a little antsy here, and it remains to be seen where a second breakthrough is coming from. Certainly you'd put your money on Bayern, but they simply need to sharpen up in the final third.
37'
It's starting to look like a typical Bayern game in the Bundesliga, and that's not entirely a compliment for the champs. They're suffocating their opponents, sure, but their chance creation hasn't been sufficient for the amount of the ball that they've seen.
35'
E. Spahić gets yellow.
Spahic, on his debut for his new club, chops down Lewandowski, who he's kept pretty strong tabs on otherwise. The referee replies with a yellow card, and both teams are now level on two bookings apiece.
33'
SUDDEN STINGER! Alaba needs no second invitation to have a crack from long range, and his effort, while not quite surprising Adler, is still too hot to handle, and warms the palms of the keeper on its way out of play!
31'
Hamburg have not been able to get out of their own half for a very long while as Bayern swarm all over them. Another half-opening goes begging as Robben and Muller come within a poor first-touch from carving open the defence.
29'
OOOOOOH THAT WASN'T FAR AWAY! There was a chance there as Costa gets free down the wing and tees one up for Muller, who just can't squeeze his effort on the turn on target!
27'
M. Benatia has scored a goal for Bayern Munich! Assist by Xabi Alonso.
BENATIA MAKES IT COUNT! Alonso hoists the free-kick behind the defence, where the defender runs onto it and plants a header past the static Adler! Suspicions of an offside there, but the flag stays down and Bayern have the advantage!
25'
D. Diekmeier gets yellow.
A third booking of the game, and a first for Hamburg. Douglas Costa is too much to handle for Diekmeier, who fouls him about 25 yards from goal and is promptly shown a card by the ref. The new Bayern signing needs attending to by the physios as the hosts set up a dangerous free-kick.
23'
Hamburg have to be reasonably happy with how this first half has gone so far. Of course Bayern were always going to dominate the ball, but they really haven't troubled Adler in goal as yet.
21'
Decent little move from the champs has Robben find Lahm on the overlap down the right, and his lovely cross is guided towards goal by Lewandowski's head, but it bounces off the roof of the net. The marking was poor there from the visitors to leave the Pole that open.
19'
Another booking here and it's Bayern again who feel the wrath of the referee. Schipplock again is the man who invites the challenge with his hustle, and Boateng has no choice (at least in his mind) but to pull him down. Yellow for the centre-back.
18'
J. Boateng gets yellow.
17'
It will be interesting to see what type of role Guardiola has in mind for Vidal this season. The Chilean is one of the most versatile players out there, and even though he hasn't quite been at the peak of his first few Juve years, he will be a good tool for the Spaniard's regular tactical tweaks.
15'
Bayern continue to push forward through the lofted ball down the flanks, but the deliveries into the area haven't been of the best standard. Credit must go to the visitors, who are starting to put more pressure on the wide men in order to deny them space and time to pick out their targets in the area.
13'
Schipplock looks a useful player leading the line already for his new club, and he nearly pounces on a turnover from the Bayern defence, only to be pulled back down to earth, quite literally, by Alonso. The first booking of the game is duly awarded to the former Real Madrid midfielder.
12'
Xabi Alonso gets yellow.
11'
Now it's Robben's turn to set up a chance as he tees up his captain Lahm for a crack, but the veteran's effort is blocked. Pressure mounting on the HSV defence, but no real clear cut chances - in fact, Neuer's earlier save has been the closest that any keeper has come to being breached.
9'
Bayern are attacking down the flanks and Hamburg are reluctant to really challenge the wide men, daring Guardiola's men to beat them with the cross. A risky strategy, but then again, what option is really bulletproof against the three-time Bundesliga champs?
7'
Better from Bayern as they start to exert their customary suffocation of the opposition. Alaba turns playmaker as he hoists a lovely pass over the top for Robben, who can't direct his header goalwards. Hamburg switched off there on the initial ball from the Austrian.
5'
Alonso is the deepest midfielder for the home side here, and Alaba, on the left side of the back three, has already bombed past him a few times. It's the type of attack-heavy formation that we have become used to from Bayern in the last year or two.
3'
Hamburg look lively early on and fashion the first opening of the game, as Holtby tees up Schipplock for an effort that fails to realy trouble Neuer in the end. Still, a positive opening from the visitors, who aren't fancied by many here.
1'
Off we go!
Hello and welcome back to the Bundesliga! The German top flight kicks off for another season with this clash between defending champs Bayern Munich and Hamburg. I'm Keeghann Sinanan, your guide for all the action.
Let's take a look at our teams for tonight's encounter at the Allianz Arena.
Pep Guardiola starts his summer headline buys Arturo Vidal and Douglas Costa as he lines up in a 3-4-3 formation that is almost guaranteed not to stand pat until the final whistle. Arjen Robben also begins a Bundesliga match for the first time since March. Thomas Muller lines up just behind Robert Lewandowski, while Medhi Benatia, Jerome Boateng and David Alaba make up the back three.
Bruno Labbadia takes charge of his first full season of his second spell as Hamburg manager, and he names a host of new summer acquisitions in his starting lineup. Albin Ekdal, Emir Spahic, Gideon Jung, Sven Schipplock and Michael Gregoritsch all play fron the first whistle. It's a 4-3-3 lineup from the visitors, but don't be surprised to see Gregoritsch and Ivo Ilicevic, the wide forwards, drop back into the midfield line almost immediately.
Bayern Munich are heavy, repeat HEAVY favourites to clinch a fourth straight Bundesliga title this campaign. They moved quickly to cover Bastian Schweinsteiger's departure with the capture of Arturo Vidal from Juventus, and it's hard to see amy glaring holes in Pep Guardiola's squad. However, the Spaniard will not rest on his laurels, and will not settle for his side getting too complacent in the league this season, especially with European redemption on the agenda.
Hamburg's fortunes last season could not have been more contradictory. They survived their second straight relegation play-off with a 3-2 aggregate win over Karlsruhe to narrowly secure their top-flight status for another season. Their recent matches against tonight's opponents have not made for happy reading, with 31 goals conceded in their last five trips to the Allianz Arena - including 9-2 and 8-0 demolitions at the hands of the Bavarians.
A deserved lead for Bayern Munich, but they're clearly still getting into their stride. Benatia gave them the advantage with a header from Alonso's free kick, and Guardiola's men have generally dominated. However, Adler hasn't been as busy as he might have expected and through the enterprising Schipplock, HSV still have a threat of their own. Stay tuned for the restart soon.
And that will do it as the referee spares Hamburg any stoppage time. Bayern get their title defence off to a great start with a five-goal smashing of HSV. Muller stole the show with a pair of efforts, but there was quality all over the pitch as usual from Guardiola's men. Wolfsburg, Dortmund and Leverkusen be warned. Bayern want to make it four straight.
That's it from me, Keeghann Sinanan here, signing off and wishing you all the best.
