And we're off! West Ham get us underway, attacking from right to left.
Good afternoon and welcome to our live text commentary of today’s Premier League clash between West Ham United and Everton. My name is Ben Cullimore and I will be keeping you up to date with all of the action from Upton Park.
Whilst both sides have little left to play for after confirming their Premier League safety in recent weeks, they will no doubt want to finish their seasons on a high after rather disappointing campaigns. West Ham started the season in great fashion and looked to be real contenders for Europa League qualification after holding their own against the big boys, but a woeful 2015 has seen them slip down the table, and they now sit in 10th place. With just three victories all year, the Hammers will be desperate to give their fans something to cheer about in their final home game of the campaign.
As for Everton, they too have failed to live up to their early season hype. After finishing in a brilliant fifth place last season, a poor campaign means that the Toffees are on course to finish in their lowest position for almost 10 years. They currently sit in 11th place, three points behind West Ham, and will be desperate to overtake the east-Londoners with a win today, one that would bring an end to their two-game losing streak and set them up nicely for next Sunday’s tough clash at home to Tottenham Hotspur.
There’s just over 15 minutes left to go until until kick-off, so let’s have a look at how the two teams will be lining up this afternoon…
West Ham United XI (4-1-2-1-2): Adrian; Jenkinson, Reid, Collins, Cresswell; Kouyate; Song, Noble; Downing; Cole, Valencia.
West Ham United substitutes: Jaaskelainen, Lee, Burke, O’Brien, Amalfitano, Jarvis, Nene.
Sam Allardyce has decided to make three changes to the West Ham side that started last weekend’s 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa, with Winston Reid, Alex Song and Carlton Cole coming into the squad to replace Reece Burke, Kevin Nolan and Morgan Amalfitano, respectively.
Meanwhile, Everton boss Roberto Martinez has made just one alteration to the side that lost 2-0 at home to Sunderland, with the injured Leighton Baines making way for 19-year-old Brendan Galloway, who makes his first ever start for the club.
The two sides are making their way out onto the pitch, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off.
HALF-TIME: WEST HAM UNITED 0-0 EVERTON
It's been a rather lacklustre first-half performance from both sides, with neither able to cause too many problems for the other in front of goal. Everton have arguably looked the better of the two, playing some lovely passing football at times, whilst West Ham have been forced into flinging a plethora of crosses into the visitors' penalty area, many of which have been comfortably dealt with by the Toffees.
The two teams are making their way back out onto the pitch ahead of the start of the second half. Neither side have made any substitutions during the half-time break.
FULL-TIME: WEST HAM UNITED 1-2 EVERTON
What an end to the game that was! It looked as if both sides had settled for a point, but Everton popped up with a piece of magic late on to come away with all three points. Lukaku fully deserved to bag the winner after playing so well all game, but West Ham will certainly feel hard done by after putting in an equally good performance at both ends of the pitch.
The defeat means that Everton now sit equal on points with West Ham in 11th place, with just one goal separating the two sides heading into the final game of the season. The Hammers are in action against Newcastle United, whilst the Toffees have to play Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park.
My name is Ben Cullimore and it's been an absolute pleasure describing all of the action to you today. Until next time, goodbye!
