Dortmund get us under way here at Signal Iduna Park. The man in charge of the cards for today's clash is Michael Weiner.
Good afternoon and welcome to our LIVE text commentary of today's Bundesliga clash between Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt at Signal Iduna Park. I'm Matthew Judge and I will be your host for the match, which kicks off in around 35 minutes time.
Dortmund, however, face Bayern Munich in the DFB Pokal semi-finals on Tuesday and can qualify for Europe that way, but BVB boss Jurgen Klopp has said in the build up to today's clash with Frankfurt that it would be “mad” to prioritise the German Cup over their Bundesliga campaign, especially when they still have a chance of securing a Europa League berth for next season through league placing.
CONFIRMED TEAM NEWS..
Today's fixture sees two teams looking to keep their respective hopes of securing a European place for next season lock horns, with both Dortmund and Frankfurt sitting six points behind sixth-placed Augsburg in the Bundesliga table.
For Frankfurt, they really need to pick up a positive result at the Westfalenstadion today if they're to have any hopes of catching up to Augsburg in sixth. The Eagles haven't won in their last four Bundesliga matches, losing two, though they have faced some tough opposition in the likes of Bayern Munich and Borussia Monchengladbach.
TEAM NEWS: 17-year-old Dominik Reimann is on the bench for Dortmund today as veteran goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller is injured. Ilkay Gundogan, who has been heavily linked with a summer move to Manchester United in several national newspapers this morning, also isn't in the squad due to a throat infection.
The players are stripped and raring to go as they leave the tunnel and enter the pitch. In this fixture last season, a brace from Aubameyang and strikes from Robert Lewandowski and Milos Jojic handed Dortmund a 4-0 win over Frankfurt.
Both sets of players head towards the tunnel as the referee calls time on the first half here at Signal Iduna Park, with Dortmund leading Frankfurt by two goals to nil at the interval. A spot-kick from Aubameyang and a strike from Kagawa have the hosts sitting comfortably at the moment.
The visitors are certainly missing their star duo of Aigner and Meier and the goals they both bring to Frankfurt today, with Schaaf's men creating a couple of half chances in the opening 45 minutes but they lacked that crucial spark needed in the final third to seriously trouble BVB.
TEAM NEWS: Frankfurt boss Thomas Schaaf has made three changes to the side which started the Eagles' last match against Monchengladbach, with Anderson Bamba, Bastian Oczipka and Stefan Aigner all dropping out for Carlos Zambrano, Timothy Chandler and Lucas Piazon respectively.
Goals from Aubameyang and Kagawa help Dortmund secure a 2-0 win over Frankfurt to keep up their hopes of securing a European qualification berth in the Bundesliga this season.
Former Saint Etienne forward Aubameyang scored the opener from the spot after Schmelzer's cross struck the hand of Kittel, before the Gabon star played in Kagawa to make it 2-0 to the hosts before the half-time whistle.
BVB's win means they will now enter Tuesday's tie against Bayern Munich in the DFB Pokal semi-finals with back-to-back league wins under their belt, while Frankfurt - on the other hand - are now five games without a victory in Germany's top flight. Next up for the Eagles is an away tie to in form Werder Bremen.
That's all from me, Matthew Judge, and it has been a great pleasure talking you through all of today's action at Signal Iduna Park. We hope to see you again soon. Take care!
