Jô has scored a goal for Brazil! Assist by Neymar.
That was supreme by Neymar - again he lights up the Confederations Cup here. That was a stunning piece of skill to set up Jo for the second. Surely that was the last moment of the game.
GOOOOOOAL! BRAZIL 2-0 MEXICO! A rather stunning goal that, despite the simple finish applied. Neymar with a bit of skill to bamboozle the defence and set up Jo to tap in.
90' +1
Into the first of four additional minutes here at Castelao.
90'
F. Rodríguez gets yellow.
Dani Alves, fed in by Paulinho aims to locate Jo with an over-hit delivery that sails into the arms of Corona.
89'
H. Herrera gets yellow.
Neymar looks as if he's taken a battering this evening, but yellow card shown for captain Francisco Rodriguez for dissent, one would presume. Looks baffled by that decision.
88'
R. Jiménez enters the game and replaces G. Torrado.
This game has an air of finality about it as both teams appear to be stumbling over until the final whistle. Yellow card to Hector Herrera, after a late lunge.
Victory this evening will put Brazil in the semi-finals of the Confederations Cup, with a game to spare. They're four minutes away from sealing that.
84'
PAULINHO! Neymar with a fine bit of skill to leave Salcido bamboozled, but his deft touch manages to pick up Paulinho, who fires over from the rebound.
83'
Still, the Mexicans prevail, but are unable to test Julio Cesar, as yet another corner sails calmly into the arms of the goalkeeper.
Minute
Description
82'
Jô enters the game and replaces Fred.
81'
GUARDADO! Superb chance for de la Torre's side once again, but it's not enough. Threatening cross from Barrera, helped on by Hernandez, but Guardado on the far side sees his strike deflected over by Dani Alves at the death.
SUBSTITUTION - Brazil: Fred (off) (on) Jo
80'
Pablo Barrera with yet another delivery in since his substitution a few minutes ago, but Brazil are keeping them at arm's length once again.
79'
It's been all Mexico in the last few minutes, and it shows on the possession count - El Tri have pulled it back to an even 50-50%.
78'
Lucas Moura enters the game and replaces Hulk.
SUBSTITUTION - Brazil: Lucas Moura (on) (off) Hulk - the Zenit forward has been replaced by the PSG player, who will be hoping he can make an impact in the last 12 or so minutes.
77'
Mexico with the corner, delivered deep towards Mier, after a heavy delivery from dos Santos. Pushing in the area, means it's a Brazil free-kick. The Selecao have a substitution ready.
76'
Dani Alves gets yellow.
Luiz on hand to deflect the ball away under the challenge of Javier Hernandez - he's been quite brilliant tonight, absolutely brilliant.
75'
YELLOW CARD: Dani Alves receives a yellow for an elbow on Moreno. Could've easily been different there, but Mexico have a free-kick.
74'
El Tri are maintaining the push here, as Barrera cuts in on his right and powers a low ball towards the goal, but Dani Alves is on hand to clear the ball behind for a corner.
73'
Big Phil's not happy at all, as he gesticulates wildly at his charges. Fred wins a free-kick after Torrado jumped unfairly in the aerial challenge with him.
72'
David Luiz hoofs the ball up the field to try and encounter Fred, but Rodriguez is comfortable enough to deal with the ball. Salcido recovers to race forward, but his cross flies over Brazil's goal.
71'
Entering the final 20 minutes of action here at Estadio Castelao - Brazil leading Mexico 1-0, but there've been chances at both ends here. Mexico need at least a point depending on the other result tonight (Italy v Japan) to remain in the competition.
70'
P. Barrera enters the game and replaces J. Torres Nilo.
68'
SUBSTITUION - Mexico: Barrera (on) (off) Torres
67'
Great ball from Neymar, with a curling delivery from his right foot almost catches out Corona, under pressure from the lingering Fred. Paulinho's back on the field after receiving attention.
65'
Guardado leads the Mexican charge, and there's a player down. Mexico complaining, but Brazil continue, it's a fine run forward by Paulinho, past three defenders before he tees up Neymar. The forward strikes at Corona at his near post, and wins a corner.
64'
And it's a carbon copy moment for Brazil at the other end, with the through ball powered a bit too much, as Corona scythes the ball away.
63'
Mexico with a counter-attack, but the ball forward towards Hernandez, who could be faced with a one-on-one is overhit, as Julio Cesar races off his line to clear away.
62'
Hernanes enters the game and replaces Oscar.
Free-kick blocked by the Mexican wall, but Brazil maintain their attacking push with a corner. Hulk with the delivery, headed behind by Rodriguez. Another corner.
61'
SUBSTITUTION - Brazil: Oscar (off) (on) Hernanes - the Chelsea midfielder hasn't fared brilliantly tonight, and has been replaced by the Lazio player.
60'
DAVID LUIZ! Superb interception that. Dos Santos with a low cross into the path of Hernandez, who looks as if he's going to tap into the goal, but the Chelsea man does fantastically well to divert the ball away.
59'
Dani Alves with a high boot on Jorge Torres, with the referee awarding a free-kick in favour of El Tri.
58'
H. Herrera enters the game and replaces G. Flores.
SUBSTITUTION: Mexico - Gerardo Flores (off) (on) Hector Herrera - like for like in midfield.
57'
Neymar racess forward on the left after being set through, but Mier does well to slide the ball away with a fine tackle. Mexico with a substitution.
56'
NEYMAR! Brazil turning on the style now, two good chances in two minutes. Neymar picks up the ball on the edge of the area, and fires a low shot - which appeared to be a cross - narrowly wide of Corona's goal.
55'
HULK! Oh what a miss, should've been 2-0. Amazing build-up play that. A few good stepovers, and a one-two over the defence from Fred provides Hulk with a one on one chance against Corona, and he toe-punts wide.
54'
Dos Santos tussles with Marcelo on the wing, and the Real Madrid player wins the battle, and a goal-kick for his efforts. Dos Santos has provided Brazil with a few problems to contend with.
53'
Tempo has dropped considerably - it has been dropping since halfway through the first half, as Mexico keep the Brazilian attack at bay at the moment.
51'
Neymar threads a neat ball to release Hulk on the wing, but the Zenit man's first-time delivery sails into the arms of Corona - a comfortable catch, that.
49'
Mier wins a free-kick after a heavy nudge from Fred, who has been a little lax up front since the early stages. Can Mexico maintain their push for an equaliser?
48'
GOA- no, it's offside. Thiago Silva taps home from the free-kick, but the flag has gone. Darren Cann, the English assistant referee has disallowed the goal, despite a fantastic set-piece delivery from Neymar. Not sure Thiago was totally offside, but still 1-0 here.
47'
Goal's Mexico team expert Tom Marshall: Mexico need to create both chances, get Chicharito into the game where he can make a difference. Easier said than done, obviously
Early free-kick for the Selecao here, after Mier downs Neymar. The number ten and Marcelo are in conversation over who'll take the free-kick.
46'
UNDERWAY in the second half - Brazil attacking from right to left, and they get us going again. Let's hope for the same crazy start!
45' +3
HALF-TIME: Brazil 1-0 Mexico (Neymar 9')
45' +2
DOS SANTOS! Good delivery, and Julio Cesar has to watch that all the way onto the roof of the net. Superb free-kick that was, and it wasn't that far away either.
45' +1
Another clumsy challenge from Brazil, who are starting to look undisciplined a little here. Dos Santos is forced off the ball by the arm of Neymar.
45'
Into THREE added minutes at the end of the first half.
44'
And the free-kick fails to find a team-mate. But exico have the ball again here - only briefly, as Torrado's ball down left towards Hernandez bounces out of play. Appreciated by Chepo, who applauds from the touchline.
43'
Thiago Silva gets yellow.
42'
Hernandez into the game here as he holds up play, but Thiago Silva knocks him over with a clumsy tackle. Yellow card for the captain.
41'
It's all gone a bit flat here at the Estadio Castelao, since Neymar's opener a good half-hour ago. Neymar wins a free-kick, as Brazil play on with ten men once more.
40'
Well, Howard Webb's forced David Luiz off the field again, as the Chelsea man continues to play on with a heavily bloodied nose. Almost near half-time.
39'
Salcido and Guardado on the ball, it's a low delivery from the former, as it's quickly denied by Paulinho, and Brazil hail on the counter attack.
38'
And after nearly five minutes of attention, David Luiz is on the field, but cheekily stuffs a bit of tissue up his nose to stop the bleeding after receiving the all clear from the referee. Mexico have a free-kick now, though. After Luiz Gustavo's foul.
37'
Brilliant mazy run from Giovani dos Santos who easily skips past Marcelo who stumbles on the floor. Cuts in on his left, he's unable tot est Julio Cesar.
Eric Gomez: David Luiz goes down after smacking his face on Thiago Silva's head on that earlier play. The pause allows Felipao to talk to a few of his players, who apparently advise that he make a sub. He motions over to his bench and then waves them off, as they were about to start warming up. On the Mexican side, Chepo de la Torre looks lost and confused, despite the fact that his team has showed more today than it ever did against Italy
36'
Webb meanwhile, continues to toy with the Brazil fans, as he gives Neymar a telling off. That action is met with a few boos from the faithful.
35'
Howard Webb's stopped play once again, as he runs towards the physios. It appears he's got David Luiz's blood on his hands, and on the ball, as he quickly washes his hands. Hands up if you've seen this occur before!
34'
David Luiz splitting blood, as he's stretchered off for further medical attention. Brazil briefly down to ten men at the moment.
33'
Guardado's delivery in the box is cleared by David Luiz, but the Chelsea defender appears hurt, as Howard Webb stops play.
32'
Mexico pushing forward too now, as Mier ploughs forward on the right, but his speculative cross is easily dealt with by Luiz Gustavo.
31'
Infostrada Sports on Twitter: Brazil are unbeaten in all 20 previous matches at Confeds when they scored the opening goal | 18 wins - 2 draws.
30'
Coming up to the half-hour in Fortaleza, Brazil still leading 1-0 against Mexico, courtesy of Neymar's fine goal on nine minutes.
28'
Howard Webb waves play on as Torres feeds in Dos Santos in the middle of the park. Mexico progress, as dos Santos seemingly wins a corner for his efforts, but Webb changes his mind!
27'
Neymar lifts the ball into the box, but Rodriguez deflects the ball away for a corner.
26'
Free-kick to Brazil about 30 metres out, after Torrado concedes for a foul. The crowd are urging Neymar or Hulk - the players around the ball, to shoot.
24'
David Luiz gestures his team-mates forward, as Marcelo brings the ball forward. However, their progress is kept in check as Neymar concedes a free-kick for a foul.
23'
Eric Gomez: HUGE dive from Neymar as Guardado mistimes his tackle. The former Santos man smells blood in the water, though - and with everything going his way, he milks the contact for what its worth. The result? Valencia's Guardado spooks Howard Webb, slightly late on the play, into a yellow card. The force is with Brazil, though. Everything they're doing seems to be working
NEYMAR! Wow, that was close. Brilliant strike from the number ten who holds off his marker, and powers a stinging effort towards Corona, but only just flies over the bar.
22'
Well, Neymar is writhing around in pain after clutching his back, it seems to me that Moreno left his boot in, stamping on the forward after he went to ground. Nevertheless, free-kick Brazil.
21'
A. Guardado gets yellow.
Poor delivery from the corner, and Brazil are on the counter attack here. Superb break, led by Neymar all the way from Paulinho's block. But the new Barca signing is fouled by Andres Guardado. Yellow card.
20'
Decent delivery, but doesn't manage to materialise into something serious. David Luiz helps the ball on, before Javier Hernandez attempts to find Mier on the other edge of the box, as Mexico ultimately win a corner for their efforts.
19'
Ouch. Neymar hacks down Giovani dos Santos, and Mexico have a free-kick in a decent position. Defenders forward for this one...
18'
Free-kick to Mexico, Mier caught by Oscar, as Mexico continue to hit back after their early malaise. What do you make of the opening exchanges? Send me your messages via Twitter to @mohammedali_93 or on the chat box to your right.
17'
A bit of a delay here - PSG captain Thiago Silva needs medical attention after getting a kick on the shin from Flores, as the players vie for a loose ball in the box. He'll be OK though.
16'
MIER! What a chance for Mexico, and Brazil were exposed at the back. Should've been 1-1 that. Marcelo gives the ball away stupidly, and after a series of blocks and deflections, Mier races forward, easily beats his opponent, despite losing his footing, but still manages to get the shot away - only just wide of the post!
14'
DANI ALVES!! OH MY WORD! What a cheeky attempt from the right-back, who chips the ball ever so delicately, and it hurtles towards the top corner. It looks as if Corona was beaten, but the goalkeeper did well to track back and tip it over the bar.
13'
Brazil stepping up the ante here. Neymar on the ball - instantly the crowd go wild - and he tees up Paulinho, whose effort is blocked by the head of Rodriguez. Hulk on the follow-up is thwarted.
12'
SALCIDO! Well wide. The left-back takes things into his own hands, or feet rather, by lashing a shot from distance considerably wide of Julio Cesar's post. Jose Manuel de la Torre watches on frustrated.
11'
That's Neymar's 13th goal in 15 games for the Selecao, and his second of the Confederations Cup. Mexico need to win here, though if Italy beat Japan later tonight, they will be out of the competition.
Eric Gomez: GOAL! As the ball caromed in the air towards Neymar, the Brazilian chant stopped and they gasped in anticipation. When the new Barcelona signing struck the ball, they screamed before it even went in.
More from Eric: Such is the joy and confidence in Fortaleza, as the crowd and players have found a surprising rhythm early on. Mexico, despite some spirited attacking early on, have yet to find the clarity that has been so lacking both in CONCACAF as well as Confededations play.
10'
Now, that is stunning from Neymar, who really is beginning to turn over his critics here. The cheers when that goal went in reverberated around the entire ground. Fantastic finish, Brazil one up, and it's deserved.
9'
Neymar has scored a goal for Brazil!
GOOOOOAL! BRAZIL 1-0 MEXICO!!! Superb goal from Neymar. He's at it again! Superb run from Dani Alves on the right, with a fine cross, headed away by the defender. Only in the path of Neymar, who volleys into the bottom corner.
8'
Hulk ploughs forward, linking with Fred, but the return doesn't come off as they've planned as Mexico hurriedly hoof the ball away. It'll be interesting to see how the Zenit man fares against Carlos Salcido.
7'
Offside again, as Hulk cuts in on his left, aiming to test Corona, before the flag goes up. It's been a fluid start from Scolari's men.
6'
FLORES! Good effort from the midfielder who does well to retrieve the ball after Guardado's mistake. He races through the middle but has a shoot denied by Julio Cesar, who needs two stops to make sure.
5'
OFFSIDE! Brazil have the ball in the net via Oscar, but it's chalked off, after the whistle had already gone. The roof threatens to explode what with the sound and passion from the Selecao faithful.
4'
More from Eric inside the stadium: Deafening cheers for the Brazilian national anthem, and only a smattering of boos for the Mexican anthem. The stadium is absolutely rife with emotion, and Brazilian fans applaud every single action the Canarinha takes on the pitch. When Giovani dos Santos received the match's first foul, the Brazilian fans were quick to boo him. Gio, the son of Brazilian footballer Zizinho, was born in Monterrey, Mexico and was eligible to play for Brazil prior to being cap-tied with El Tri.
MARCELO! Good save for Jose Corona, as Brazil play the short ball from the free-kick. Marcelo loiters just outside the area and fires a low shot through the gaggle of defenders but the goalkeeper saves well.
3'
The atmosphere is unbelievable. Superb run in the area by Neymar, who tees up Fred, but the Fluminense man cannot find a man in hte middle, as Mexico hurry the ball away.
2'
Good movement from Brazil, who regroup in numbers in midfield, but Howard Webb awards a free-kick in El Tri's favour.
1'
KICK-OFF! Mexico get us underway, attacking from right to left, as they are met by a barrage of jeers from the fervent Castelao crowd.
A superb opening night of the Confederations Cup on Saturday night saw the Selecao dismantle Japan 3-0, including a sumptuous opening goal from Neymar inside the 3rd minute. The Brazilians are unchanged tonight, with Luiz Felipe Scolari keeping faith in the same 11 that prevailed at the Estadio Nacional at the weekend.
Goal Correspondent Eric Gomez has arrived at the stadium in Fortaleza, and met none other than Roberto Carlos in the media zone! Here's what the Real Madrid legend had to say about Brazil's chances this evening "It's going to be a very even match. Even though Mexico is struggling right now, they've always done well against us. I expect a very difficult match for the Selecao. We're the favorites, yes. But it's time to show that on the pitch."
Mexico meanwhile are in danger of exiting the competition. They suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Italy on Sunday, and should El Tri suffer defeat tonight, with the Azzurri picking up a win later tonight, the Central Americans will be heading out of the Confederations Cup.
The two nations meet for the first time since Mexico's shock victory at Wembley in the London 2012 Olympic Games gold medal match in August. Omar Peralta ensured that Olympic Gold eluded the Samba Boys once more - it reamins the only major competition that they've failed to win.
STAT: Since Mexico's victory over Brazil in the 1999 Confederations Cup final, the side have beaten Brazil in six, and lost only three of their last 11 matches since. Wow.
There've been a growing wave of protests, including this afternoon outside Estadio Castelao in Fortaleza. Upto 30,000 protestors are involved in a confrontation with police, though at the moment, kick-off won't be delayed. A growing fury in Brazil, as the tournament progresses with protestors initially angry at rising fares on public transport.
Tonight's referee is Howard Webb from England. About ten minutes until kick-off.
Eric Gomez: A group of rowdy Mexican fans are attracting tons of attention. Their chants of ¡Mexico, Mexico!have inspired the ire of the very pro-Brazil crowd who have responded with a deafening Brazil! Brazil!
The teams are out to the familiar sound of the Fifa anthem. The stadium is nearly full - Brazil are playing in this part of the country for the first time in 11 years!
The Brazilian anthem is brilliantly sung along by nearly everyone inside the stadium - what an atmosphere! The music has stopped, but everyone continues with fervent applause. That's just amazing to see.
It's been a decent game in Fortaleza, which started in ultimately frenetic fashion. Neymar's superb volley on nine minutes separates the team at the interval. Mexico have come back in the game as the half progresses. Not over this one. By all means.
Half-time update from Eric: Brazil fans whistle in the stands to pressure Webb into ending the first half. The upward swing from Mexico is apparent, and despite their persistent attacking, they've been inefficient and out of sync. Without Giovani dos Santos on their side, this team would be forced into the same M.O.: Crosses from the wings hoping Chicharito can put his head on one every now and then. As Webb calls time, a disheartened Hernandez is consoled by a pair of his teammates en route to the dressing rooms.
Goal's Carlo Garganese on Twitter:
Brazil 1-0 up at break. Great Neymar volley but disappointing game thereafter. Passing from holding MFs poor, Hulk & Oscar struggling
Back to the action in Fortaleza, as both sides make their way out for the second half. David Luiz, now cleaned up after taking a hit in the first half, will start the second. Continue the conversation on Twitter - @mohammedali_93.
