We're underway at the Etihad Stadium.
Liverpool come into the game on a high note following their hammering of Arsenal last time out. The Reds have enjoyed a strong start to the season other than their last collapse at Watford, having qualified for the Champions League and winning their other two matches to start the campaign.
The England winger was controversially sent off by referee Mike Dean for celebrating with the crowd at Dean Court. As a result, he will not be available this afternoon against his former club. However, City have more than enough depth to cope with his absence.
Pep Guardiola's men have not hit their full stride this season in their opening three matches, but still have secured seven points out of nine. They have Raheem Sterling to thank for keeping the pace early on as he salvaged a point against Everton before scoring the winner against Bournemouth last time out.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League clash between Manchester City and Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium.
The Reds maintained the services of Philippe Coutinho, warding off interest from Barcelona in the transfer window. However, they've been just fine without him in the final third, while the addition of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain bolsters their options in the middle of the park.
The team news has been announced and we'll start with the home side.
CITY (3-1-4-2): Ederson; Stones, Otamendi, Danilo; Fernandinho; Walker, De Bruyne, Silva, Mendy; Aguero, Jesus.
City subs: Bravo, Foden, Mangala, Sane, Gundogan, Delph, Bernardo Silva.
Liverpool subs: Karius, Lovren, Milner, Gomez, Sturridge, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Solanke.
City have made three changes from the side that beat Bournemouth last time out. Sterling is suspended and is replaced by Sergio Aguero, while Jon Stones steps into the back three to replace the injured Vincent Kompany. Bernardo Silva drops out of the side as well to be replaced by Kyle Walker.
Simon Mignolet returns between the sticks for the Merseysiders after being rested against Arsenal. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ragnar Klavan also come into the backline, replacing Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren respectively. Oxlade-Chamberlain starts from the bench.
FLASHBACK! The two sides played out a 1-1 draw in this fixture last season. James Milner put Liverpool ahead from the spot after Coutinho was fouled, but Aguero levelled the scores. Despite both teams having excellent chances neither were able to secure the win.
STAT ATTACK! City have lost only one of their last eight home Premier League matches against Liverpool. The result came in Jurgen Klopp's first tast of the fixture as he guided the Reds to an emphatic 4-1 win at the Etihad.
The players are making their way out on to the pitch, so we should be underway shortly.
HALF-TIME: MANCHESTER CITY 2-0 LIVERPOOL
Man City hold a 2-0 lead at the break over Liverpool, despite the Reds' dominance of the majority of the first period. Sergio Aguero put the home side ahead with a goal against the run of play, although City were clinical in their final third play. The game completely changed with the dismissal of Sadio Mane as he caught Ederson with a high boot. By the letter of the law the referee was correct to send off the forward, but in defence of Mane there was no malice. Pep Guardiola's men capitalised on their numerical advantage to score their second through Gabriel Jesus, with a close-range header.
In a first half of drama, Aguero achieved a major Premier League feat by scoring his 124th goal in the division. He has surpassed Dwight Yorke as the highest-scoring non-European in the history of the Premier League.
FULL-TIME: MANCHESTER CITY 5-0 LIVERPOOL
Manchester City put on a clinic in the second half to hammer Liverpool 5-0 in this contest. The scoreline does not tell the whole story of the game as the Reds were well in the contest before Sadio Mane was dismissed in the first half. However, after his dismissal City took command and were ruthless in front of goal. Sergio Aguero put them ahead in the first half before braces from Gabriel Jesus and Leroy Sane poured on the misery for the visitors. Jurgen Klopp has been handed his biggest defeat at Liverpool manager and his joint-worst in his career - matching the 6-1 defeat he suffered as manager of Mainz in 2006 against Werder Bremen.
Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.
