Madrid get a free kick down the right after a foul from Balenziaga on Di Maria! Last throw of the dice for the visitors!
90' +1
Three minutes of injury time at San Mames. Is there a winner in this?!
90'
R. Varane enters the game and replaces Dani Carvajal.
89'
Madrid make a double substitution in the latter stages as Benzema and Carvajal are replaced by Morata and Varane, who'll provide some more height inside the box for the visitors.
87'
Beñat enters the game and replaces Mikel Rico.
Álvaro Morata enters the game and replaces K. Benzema.
You get the feeling there is still a twist in this tale. It looks like Madrid are definitely settling for a point with the introduction of Illarramendi in beside Xabi Alonso. The onus is on the hosts now.
85'
WHAT A SAVE FROM DIEGO LOPEZ! Sergio Ramos clears the ball out of the box and, in a carbon copy of the Athletic goal, Ibai Gomez hits a cracking volley towards goal! The Madrid keeper somehow retreats to tip over the bar!
84'
There is certainly another goal in this game! As it stands, Real Madrid would go level on points with Barcelona, but will they view this as a point gained, or two points dropped? If they can hold on that is!
83'
Illarramendi enters the game and replaces Jesé.
82'
First substitution of the match from Carlo Ancelotti as Jese is replaced by Illarramendi. The Italian coach willing to settle for a point now it seems?
80'
Ibai Gomez has been the substitute with the most goals this season in La Liga, with 6. What a way to claim that record!
Minute
Description
78'
What a crazy 10 minutes that was! Within two minutes, Ibai Gomez equalises with a screamer and Ronaldo is sent off thanks to some unsporting behaviour from Iturraspe and Gurpegui. The momentum is definitely with the hosts!
76'
How did Iturraspe not get sent off there?! He basically headbutted Ronaldo!
75'
Iturraspe gets yellow.
Cristiano Ronaldo goes off after a red card!
CRISTIANO RONALDO IS SENT OFF! The Madrid man gets involved in a scuffle with Gurpegui and Iturraspe and sees red for raising his hands! Los Blancos down to 10-men! Some poor play acting from the Athletic captain!
73'
Ibai Gómez enters the game and replaces Muniain.
Ibai Gómez has scored a goal for Athletic Bilbao!
Second change of the match from Ernesto Valverde. Iker Muniain is withdrawn for Ibai Gomez.
GOOOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLLL FOR ATHLETIC BILBAO!! WHAT A SENSATIONAL SUBSTITUTION FROM ERNESTO VALVERDE! Ibai Gomez floats a free kick into the box and when the ball is cleared, latches on to the loose ball to rifle a fantastic strike in off the post! 1-1! INCREDIBLE! He's only been on the pitch a minute!
72'
Jese's goals this season have come in Camp Nou, Mestalla and San Mames - a young lad with the eye for goal on the big occasions!
70'
Ronaldo shows a mammoth turn of pace down the left-hand side in a footrace with Gurpegui. The Athletic captain does well to keep up up with the Portuguese, and blocks the ball out for a Madrid corner, which Di Maria will take.
68'
Susaeta drives forward down the right flank and looks to exchange a one-two with Aduriz, but the return pass from his team-mate had too much on it and Sergio Ramos sees the ball out for a Madrid goal kick. Signs of frustration coming from the hosts!
66'
What a massive goal for Real Madrid! As things stand, they would leapfrog Barcelona in the table! Athletic are by no means out of this though!
65'
Jesé has scored a goal for Real Madrid! Assist by Cristiano Ronaldo.
GOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAALLLLLL FOR REAL MADRID!! LOS BLANCOS MAKE THE BREAKTHROUGH! Benzema slides a pass down the left channel for Ronaldo, who slides the ball perfectly across goal for Jese. The 20-year-old manages to stick out a leg to stab the ball home! 1-0!
64'
Just under 30 minutes remaining in the match here. With title and Champions League ramifications coming from this result, will anyone be able to take advantage to claim all three points?
62'
The referee is being very pernickety when assessing fouls. A lot of very needless free kicks and are being given and it's interrupting the flow of the match. Come on ref, let them play!
61'
Poor connection from Di Maria. The ball sits up perfectly for the Argentine on the edge of the box, but he fails to get his body over the ball and ends up sending his half-volley high into the stand.
59'
First change of the match and it goes from Athletic. De Marcos, who has been deployed at right-back tonight, is replaced by the more conventional defender, Iraola.
58'
Andoni Iraola enters the game and replaces De Marcos.
That's great defending from Susaeta and De Marcos. Madrid counterattack and the ball comes to Jese down the left-hand side, but the Athletic duo combine to cleanly reclaim possession and mount an attack down the wing.
56'
Aduriz takes on Marcelo at right-back and just manages to get an inch of space to lash a cross into the box. However, Diego Lopez is well-positioned to come out and claim out of the air.
54'
BENZEMA! Great save from Iraizoz! The Madrid man receives the ball to feet inside the box and drills a left-footed strike towards the corner, but the Athletic keeper beats the ball wide! Much better from Benzema!
53'
Ronaldo steps up to hit a free kick towards goal, but the connection is poor, and the Athletic wall easily manages to block. Real Madrid collect again and continue to press...
51'
Nearly for Ronaldo. The Portuguese skips past the challenge of Gurpegui and looks poised to have a crack at goal, but a slightly poor second touch allows Iturraspe to steal possession.
49'
GOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLL FOR REAL MADRID! WAIT! NO! OFFSIDE!! Ronaldo latches on to a lobbed pass over the top of the defence and lashes a strike home, but the linesman eventually flags! Looked like the correct decision, but it was tight!
48'
It's a very subdued atmosphere inside the stadium at the moment. Tense stuff indeed!
47'
Modriiiiic! Unlucky! The Croatian receives a neat knockdown from Benzema and lashes a strike towards the right corner, but Iraizoz gets across goal to palm the attempt round the post!
46'
We are back under way in San Mames!
45'
Well, Benzema is have a horror show of a match here. Di Maria counterattacks at pace through the middle and slides a lovely pass down the channel for his team-mate, who loses the ball after messing up an over-elaborate backheel.
43'
Some worrying scenes for Athletic at the moment as Aduriz is currently down after a nasty, nasty fall on his arm. Thankfully, he's got to his feet, and looks to be okay.
41'
Ander Herrera receives the ball to feet 25 yards out and cleverly touches the ball round the oncoming Xabi Alonso. The Madrid man, who is on a yellow, brings him down, and Athletic get the free kick.
40'
Yet again, the Real Madrid attack is broken down by Benzema. This time the frontman collects the ball with his back to goal and attempts an extremely difficult chipped pass down the right. It goes out, and Athletic get the throw in.
38'
A pretty awesome stat for you here: Real Madrid have now reached 780 minutes without conceding in official games.
Unreal!
37'
That's poor from Benzema. Carvajal breaks forward down the right and then reverses a pass back inside for the Frenchman, whose touch lets him down and the attack eventually breaks down. He punches the turf in frustration.
35'
Athletic have scored 15 goals in last 3 La Liga games, and Madrid are yet to concede this calendar year. Again, something's got to give here!
34'
The San Mames crowd is not happy as the home team break forward on the counterattack but the referee brings play back for a foul on Benzema just inside the Athletic half.
32'
Aduriz goes down in the box! The Athletic man is bullied off the ball by Sergio Ramos and falls to the floor a little to easily! No penalty! Good decision from the official!
31'
As it turns out, Xabi Alonso didn't pick up a yellow card for the previous challenge on De Marcos. He has now though! First of the match from the ref.
30'
Xabi Alonso gets yellow.
29'
Ronaldoooo! Unlucky! The former Manchester United man sees the ball fall out of the sky and looks to smash a strike at goal on the volley. The attempt goes high and wide, but the conviction is to be applauded!
27'
Sergio Ramos collects possession deep in his own half and looks to lob the ball over the top of the defence for Jese, but it goes long, and Iraizoz comes out to claim.
25'
Aduriz looks to latch on to a loose ball in the penalty area but before he can get a shot away, Pepe comes in with an important challenge to send it out for a corner.
23'
Small break in play at the moment as Benzema is currently down. The Frenchman just looked to take a wayward arm in the face from Gurpegui. Not to worry though, he'll be okay.
19'
Oooohhhh Muniain! The ball breaks perfectly to the 21-year-old inside the box, and he has time to pick his spot, but ends up fluffing his lines and allows the pass to move across the goal untouched! Athletic can't keep passing up these opportunities!
17'
ADURIIIIIZ!!! The former Valencia striker stabs the ball through the middle of the defence with a neat touch, and has the corner gaping, but sends his left-footed strike wide of the left-hand post! A massive chance goes begging!
15'
Jese shows an outstanding turn of pace down the right-hand side to leave Rico for dead, but his eventual ball into the box to Benzema is cut out by Laporte. Promising attack, but ultimately disappointing.
13'
Athletic are pressing Madrid's defence so much, that they are being forced to miss out the midfield and launch long balls up top. The passes are being easily gobbled up by the home side, though.
11'
Fantastic double challenges from Xabi Alonso as he steals the ball from the feet of Ander then, whilst on the floor, claws it away again, this time from the boot of Rico.
10'
De Marcos and Rico both take it upon themselves to stop Ronaldo in his tracks with a couple of pretty blatant kicks. The second challenge floors the Portuguese, and Madrid get the free kick.
8'
It's a full house in the new San Mames tonight, and the home support and creating an electric atmosphere!
6'
Superb pressing game from Athletic at the moment. Diego Lopez has been relentlessly hunted down a few times in the past few moments, and as a result, he has been forced to clear the ball into the stand.
5'
Madrid look to be fielding a 4-3-3 formation tonight, as opposed to the 4-2-3-1 as previously thought. Alonso is holding in midfield with Di Maria and Modric breaking forward. Benzema leads the line with Jese and Ronaldo on the flanks.
4'
Modric steals the ball from Muniain and looks to burst down the right, but he is unceremoniously bundled over, and Madrid get the free kick.
3'
Di Maria has a crack too! Madrid pepper the Athletic goal with shots in the opening stages, and this time the Argentine goes for it. Just wide, though.
2'
Ronaldoooooooo!! Almost an incredible start! The Portuguese latches on to a loose ball in midfield and has a left-footed snapshot that goes inches by the post! Iraizoz was nowhere to be seen!
1'
We are under way in Bilbao!
Good evening folks! Welcome to LIVE coverage of the Spanish Primera Division clash between Athletic Bilbao and Real Madrid from San Mames Barria!
I'm Martin Macdonald, and I'll be taking you through the action!
TEAM NEWS.
Athletic (4-2-3-1): Iraizoz; De Marcos, Gurpegui, Laporte, Balenziaga; Iturraspe, Mikel Rico; Susaeta, Ander Herrera, Muniain; Aduriz
Real Madrid (4-2-3-1): Diego Lopez; Carvajal, Pepe, Ramos, Marcelo; Xabi Alonso, Modric; Di Maria, Jese, Ronaldo; Benzema
First start in La Liga for Jese for Los Blancos this evening! An exciting prospect!
It's all heating up in the title race this weekend folks!
Barcelona succumbed to a shock 3-2 home defeat last night to Valencia, meaning that the door is left open tonigt for either Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid to claim top spot with a win in their respective matches.
It's Los Colchoneros who have took advantage though. They are currently 3-0 up against Real Sociedad at the Vicente Calderon, and look set to top the league for the first time in 18 years. An incredible story!
However, the pressure will still be on Real Madrid to leapfrog Barcelona in the standings with a victory over Athletic tonight!
The match currently going on in Madrid also has implications for Athletic, though. The Basques have the opportunity to go nine points clear of their rivals, Sociedad, in the race for the last Champions League spot!
Madrid are currently on a 20-match unbeaten run, but they come up against a fourth-placed Athletic side who are yet to lose in their new San Mames stadium. Something's got to give here!
Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema have scored a combined 60 goals this term, so Athletic will have their work cut out dealing with the Madrid attackers!
No Gareth Bale tonight for Carlo Ancelotti's men, who misses out due to injury.
Madrid have won their last 3 visits to old San Mames, each time 3-0. Ronaldo scored in each game, including a double last April.
We're going to have a minute's silence before the match tonight due to the passing of former Real Madrid player and Spain coach, Luis Aragones.
Half time in San Mames. Athletic and Real Madrid enter the break at 0-0 with both goalkeepers having pretty quiet matches so far. The home side look decent in possession, but Los Blancos are always a danger with their pacey counterattacks. The final ball is lacking from both sides! A pretty even match so far!
If the matches finishes as a draw, Real Madrid would go level on points with Barcelona in the table and Athletic would further extend their gap between Villarreal and Real Sociedad in the race for fourth place. Plenty of ramifications from this result tonight!
Full time in San Mames. A breathtaking second half finishes as Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao both settle for a point after a 1-1 draw. Jese opened the scoring for the visitors with a close range strike, but the Basque side rallied and equalised fairly quickly thanks to a stunning goal from substitute, Ibai Gomez.
The match will also be remembered for a sending off for Cristiano Ronaldo after some unsporting behaviour from Gurpegui. The Portuguese will now face a La Liga ban.
Real Madrid now move level on points with Barcelona in the Spanish Primera Division. Atletico Madrid lead the league for the first time since 1996!
Athletic Bilbao have now opened up a significant six-point gap between themselves and Villarreal in 5th place. The Yellow Submarine have a game in hand, but the Basque side will be proud of their point earned tonight.
I'm Martin Macdonald, thanks for joining us! See you next time!
