Not long left for the visitors now as Bassong harmlessly heads wide from a free kick.
90' +8
Elmander is in a heated discussion with Friend - there hasn't been a booking tonight, but the Swede is close to talking himself into the referee's notebook. It's been a long, frustrating night for the Canaries.
90' +6
What a miss from Hernandez! Young whips in a gorgeous cross from the right and the Mexican is all alone in the area, yet somehow heads the ball wide of Bunn's left-hand post from all of six yards. THat should have been his hat-trick.
90' +5
Fábio has scored a goal for Manchester United!
FABIO MAKES IT FOUR!!! What an introduction from the full-back as he takes a superb lofted Rooney through-ball on his chest before finishing cooly past Bunn from eight yards out. A great goal all round there.
90' +3
Fábio enters the game and replaces A. Januzaj.
90' +2
Januzaj is about to take a corner, but his number's up and he departs to a fantastic repection from the supporters. Fabio is on, so we now have the Brazilian twins playing for Manchester United.
90'
Anderson enters the game and replaces T. Cleverley.
We'll have a minimum of 11 minutes of stoppage time here - predominantly for that bad injury to Snodgrass. It's now a question of whether United want to go for more goals, as Norwich have all but given up.
89'
G. Hooper enters the game and replaces W. Hoolahan.
Januzaj is hungry for more and lashes an effort at goal from distance, though it's wild and never troubling Bunn.
88'
The game is well and truly over - so much so that Moyes puts on Anderson for the hosts. When that happens, you know the game is up.
87'
P. Jones has scored a goal for Manchester United!
JONES SCORES!!! What a volley this is from the young defender, who shows great poise to scissor-kick the ball home from 18 yards after Norwich fail to clear their lines from a Rafael cross. A top effort from a surprise source, it has to be said.
Minute
Description
85'
Norwich look for a way back into this game but Vidic shuts them out with a great block to start a counter - Young feeds Rooney on the overlap, but his cross is wayward with Hernandez lurking at the back post.
83'
Buttner sees his fierce effort well blocked by Bennett for a corner. Young fires in the set-piece to the back post with Rooney making a late, unmarked run, but the ball is just too high for the striker to connect with.
82'
Rooney collects the ball with a great touch before turning on the spot twice and unleashing a cross-field ball to Rafael on the right wing - he's been itching to get on the pitch tonight.
80'
Ten minutes to go and time is running out for the Canaries - though boss Chris Hughton may be happy enough at this point to just escape with no more injuries.
79'
Rooney finds his trademark position in behind Hernandez here, with Januzaj relegated to Zaha's previous position on the right wing - the England striker still holds rank at Old Trafford.
78'
W. Rooney enters the game and replaces W. Zaha.
Debutant Zaha is sacrificed for the England striker to a fine reception. He didn't set the world alight tonight, but showed enough intelligence and skill to suggest he could well get more minutes for Moyes - at least until a possible loan move in January, that is.
77'
Things may go from bad to worse for Norwich now though, as Wayne Rooney is being readied.
76'
J. Murphy enters the game and replaces N. Redmond.
Eighteen-year-old Josh Murphy replaces the injured Redmond and immediately does well, but is adjudged to have fouled Buttner. Just the response Hughton will have wanted though.
74'
Buttner and Young combine well once more down the left wing, but the English winger's cross has too much on it and flies out for a goal kick. The duo have looked sharp today, but that delivery was poor.
72'
Buttner overruns the ball in a forward position leaving acres of space for Norwich to break into, and Redmond appears to pull a stomach muscle while running with the ball under no pressure whatsoever. That's a strange injury, and yet another blow for Hughton as he will have to come off.
69'
Close for Januzaj! This really is a special player United have on their books - the 18-year-old saunters forward towards the Norwich goal from inside his own half before narrowly shooting wide of Bunn's goal. Moyes must be delighted at having such a promising talent.
67'
United are threatening to put this game to bed now as they work corssing chances on the flanks, with Buttner effectively playing as an inside forward on the left wing now.
66'
Praise must go to Lindegaard, who acted quickly to put Snodgrass into the recovery position after his injury. Quick thinking from the keeper, who must have realised the severity of the situation early on.
65'
A. Pilkington enters the game and replaces R. Snodgrass.
Anthony Pilkington is the replacement for Snodgrass, and we're underway again - Januzaj crosses for Young, and Whittaker had to be sharp to head away from the winger waiting to nod home at the back post.
64'
Snodgrass is being carried off to a great round of applause for the home crowd, with majority shareholder Delia Smith looking concerned in the stands.
62'
The winger is being put on the spinal board very carefully, and he's receiving oxygen - he's been treated for around eight minutes now.
59'
Snodgrass is still down, and both medical teams are on the field giving him treatment. He appeared to collide with Rafael, but it looks serious with the amount of time given to the prone winger.
57'
There's some concern for Snodgrass now as the physios are on with a back board after he appeared to injure himself in a collision for the header. Let's hope he's okay.
56'
Snodgrass goes close! Redmond has been a big threat all night and gets down the right well well to deliver a hanging cross for the winger, who sees his header well-held by a diving Lindegaard.
55'
Zaha breaks and has the ball all to himself 40 yards from goal, but runs into a group of Norwich players with Hernandez well-placed ahead of him. That'll be the concentration Moyes was talking about beforehand.
54'
J. Hernández has scored a goal for Manchester United!
HERNANDEZ MAKES IT TWO!!! The little Mexican nabs his second of the night at the second attempt after seeing his initial header from Buttner's cross well saved by Bunn, reacting the quickest to nod in the rebound. A great leap from the 'Little Pea' there.
52'
It may still be October, but the United crowd is in fine voice with their traditional Christmas rendition of 'Five Cantonas.'
50'
Close for Elmander! Redmond is again the threat for Norwich as he gets down the right flank well to feed the Swede, who gets in front of Vidic to toe-poke his effort wide of the back post. Lindegaard would've had no chance if the effort was on target, and that's a let-off for United.
49'
Zaha is confused as he feels he is fouled, but Friend giving nothing. He then chases back to win the ball, but gives away a free kick in the process. He's not happy with either decision there.
48'
Vidic gets a good header in to deny Bassong a free effort at the back post. The Serbian has had a stop-start season so far, but there's no denying his talent in the air.
47'
Rafael fouls Redmond 45 yards from goal here, and Snodgrass is lining up another trademark delivery...
45' +1
Close for United! Januzaj attempts to lash an effort in from 15 yards but sees his effort well blocked, while Young's teasing cross for Hernandez just evades the Mexican's head. Moyes' boys are trying to seal this up before the break.
45'
Three minutes of injury time after a few stoppages during the half now - Jones gets caught sloppily in possession, but Snodgrass can't create a chance on the counter.
We're back underway for the second half at Old Trafford - can the Canaries find a way back into this tie?
44'
Jones and Zaha combine well to release the defender into the Canaries' box, but Jones can't find a teammate with his cross and the chance goes begging.
42'
From the resulting corner, the ball eventually finds its way back to Young, who whips in a devilish delivery that nobody gets a head on. The under-fire winger has been in good form today, to be fair.
41'
Januzaj goes up against Fer in the box again and attempts to jink past the Canaries player, but Fer is equal to it and gets a good tackle in.
40'
Redmond gets on the ball again and looks threatening after Rafael makes a hash of a clearance down the right, but his shot just trickles through to Lindegaard from 20 yards. The keeper's kicking has been terrible, by the way.
38'
Despite not getting the game time he would like this season, Hernandez now has three goals in his last three Capital One Cup games according to Opta Sports. More of the same is needed to start ahead of Rooney or Van Persie though.
37'
Januzaj almost gets on the end of a Zaha cut-back now, but gets muscled out fairly by Fer in the area. Both youngsters are showing promise tonight.
36'
Elmander and Snodgrass look to link through the United back line, but the 32-year-old's touch is too heavy. He'll need to be sharper than that.
34'
Norwich have settled well in this game - aside from the goal United have created little, and Hughton will be confident his players can create chances, especially with United giving away a fair few free kicks.
33'
Lindegaard collects a cross, puts the ball on the floor, and then punts a ball out for a throw while aiming for Buttner. His distribution will have to be far sharper to even think about ousting David de Gea from the side.
32'
Bradley Johnson puts in a straightforward ball that Jones and Vidic almost make a mistake out of, with the former eventually hoofing clear - not too convincing from the hosts.
30'
Buttner clumsily fouls Snodgrass from behind, catching the winger on the heel. The Canaries dangerman is in a lot of pain, and referee Friend tells the United defender he'll get booked for the next one.
29'
Januzaj is human after all - Rafael feeds him after a strong run down the right, and the midfielder comically slips and shanks his attempted cross-field pass. Not a moment to remember for Adnan.
28'
Buttner drills in a cross and Zaha goes down in the area under the challenge of Garrido, but there's nothing doing from referee Friend this time.
27'
Snodgrass whips in a great delivery from the left and Bennett gets his head to the ball, but can only direct it into the ground with Lindegaard reading the bounce easily. It really was a wonderful ball from the winger.
26'
Rafael concedes a free kick on and the Norwich fans ironically cheer the decision - they're not happy with that penalty...
25'
Young puts in a fine inswinging free kick and goalscorer Hernandez gets up highest to get a flick on it, but Bunn is relieved to see the ball fly into his hands.
24'
Zaha shows a good turn of pace and plays the ball to the left wing, where Young wins another free kick - they're getting a lot of joy down that flank.
23'
Snodgrass and Buttner collide in the air now and both players require some treatment - the duo should continue though.
21'
Norwich may feel aggrieved at Kevin Friend's decision to award the spot kick, but Fer simply kicked Januzaj over - that's lazy defending from a talented player, and Hughton may well have words for him when he sees the replays.
20'
Penalty goal scored by J. Hernández for Manchester United!
HERNANDEZ SCORES! The Mexico international shows nerves of steel to send Bunn the wrong way, curling the ball into the bottom right-hand corner from 12 yards. United lead.
19'
Penalty to United! Young does well down the left and feeds Januzaj - the youngster has nowhere to go with the ball running towards the byline, and Fer needlessly kicks the youngster over - it's soft, but a needless foul. Hernandez to take...
18'
Lindegaard confidently punches and United forward now...
17'
Norwich break now and Elmander wins a corner after seeing his cross deflect and loop a foot or so over Lindegaard's bar - the keeper may have been worried for a moment or two there.
16'
Norwich are looking nervous here - Bennett and then Javier Garrido makes a hash of their respective clearances, and United almost work a shooting chance from a cross before the Canaries clear.
15'
Close again for the hosts as Ferdinand heads the ball back across goal, but the ball isn't turned in from close range by a United head - it been given as a foul anyway. There's a stoppage as Bradley Johnson is down injured in the net for the visitors.
13'
So close for Hernandez! Zaha has the first chance to show his pace after being released down the right by Januzaj, and the winger crosses low to find the Mexican - he controls it with his back to goal before seeing his shot on the turn deflected inches wide for a corner.
11'
Steven Whittaker is in late on Buttner and concedes a free kick, but Young can't find a teammate from the delivery on the left wing. The Dutch left-back has been getting forward well so far though, and could pose more problems for the visitors tonight.
9'
Nathan Redmond looks a real prospect - he dribbles at real pace through United's side towards the area, and eventually works a shoooting opportunity that sails wide of Anders Lindegaard's right-hand post. The youngster has been very sharp so far.
8'
It's been a quiet start at Old Trafford, with the hosts getting used to the players alongside them. United look comfortable on the ball, though Norwich are under no real pressure so far.
6'
Snodgrass plays a cheeky chipped ball through to Elmander, and Ferdinand has to put the ball out for a throw-in to prevent the forward from causing any problems in the United box.
5'
Young does better now as he plays in Janizaj, but the youngster's cross is easily collected by Bunn.
4'
Ashley Young lines up the free kick, and thumps it disappointingly into the wall. That effort represents his season so far.
3'
Alexander Buttner is fouled by Leroy Fer 25 yards from goal on the left - this could well be the first chance of the match...
2'
Jones takes the ball in the centre and aims a high ball through to Hernandez, but there's too much on it and it runs through to Canaries keeper Mark Bunn. The Mexican will be desperate for good service tonight.
1'
Norwich get us underway and United immediately get hold of the ball, with Zaha getting his first competitive touch inside 30 seconds.
"We had bad starts to the season many times," 71-year-old Ferguson said. "We are the only club in that league that can come from behind to win the league because of our history." Moyes will be hoping United can at least keep their good cup form going this season – they top their Champions League group, and a fifth Capital One Cup trophy this year would be a welcome addition.
History looks to be on Norwich’s side as they have never lost to United in the league cup, winning twice and drawing once – though the last meeting was way back in 1979. However, United have won 10 of their past 11 league cup games at Old Trafford, so they may take some beating no matter how shaky their home form has been of late.
The big news for the hosts is that Wilfried Zaha gets his first start under David Moyes, while Adnan Januzaj also plays - tonight could well be a glimpse into United's attacking future.
Good evening and welcome to the LIVE Text Commentary of Manchester United v Norwich City in the Capital One Cup fourth round. I’m Tom J Doyle and I’ll be guiding you through all the action at Old Trafford tonight.
It’s been a rough start in charge of the Premier League champions for David Moyes, trailing leaders Arsenal by eight points after just nine games, and needing a late rally to beat Stoke 3-2 on Saturday to avoid a second home league defeat in just three games. Former boss Sir Alex Ferguson believes the Red Devils are still in the hunt, though...
The Canaries are also looking for a distraction from the league after a poor start has left them 18th in the table – tonight will be a great chance for some squad players to prove they are ready to kickstart the season for Chris Hughton.
It's also a curious call from Moyes to partner Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic at the back tonight - the first time they've played together in the league cup. Both have struggled for form and fitness this season, so whether it's a bid to get his first-choice pairing back to full strength, or a signal that their time as certain starters is over is up for debate.
Five minutes till kick-off, and Hughton may well fancy his chances against a young United side - Johan Elmander would probably rather not be up against Ferdinand and Vidic, but the Canaries could cause a shock with a strong line-up, especially with Robert Snodgrass' crossing ability.
The sides are out at Old Trafford, and there should well be goals tonight. Phil Jones is United's most defensive midfielder, and even then he loves to gallop forward, so let's hope for an end-to-end clash.
That's the interval, and Manchester United lead Norwich 1-0 courtesy of a Hernandez penalty. The Canaries may debate Kevin Friend's decision, but Fer's silly kick on Januzaj allowed Chicharito to dispatch the spot kick to give Moyes' men the lead with 45 minutes to go.
The hosts have seen 64 per cent of the ball so far - Chris Hughton's side will have to change those statistics to stand a chance of getting a result from this game.
That's it! Manchester United breeze past Norwich with a routine 4-0 victory at Old Trafford to progress in the Capital One Cup.
Javier Hernandez grabbed two goals while Phil Jones and late substitute Fabio put the icing on the cake for David Moyes' side. There will undoubtedly be concern for Canaries winger Robert Snodgrass though, who was treated on the pitch for eight minutes before being carried off on a stretcher.
That's it from Old Trafford - I promised you goals, didn't I? I've been Tom J Doyle, and thanks for joining us tonight. Bye for now.
