WHAT A CHANCE FOR NIGERIA! The African side nearly snatch a dramatic late equaliser when a cross somehow finds its way to the back post where Echiejile meets it with a superb strike which is stopped on the line by his own player. So close!
The referee blows the full-time whistle and Uruguay celebrate!
90' +4
Edinson Cavani sums up his miserable display when he latches onto a loose ball before his attempted mazy dribble is well stopped by Omeruo. That was a chance to win it!
90' +3
Panic stations at the back for Uruguay as they just about manage to scramble the ball clear after a promising run from Babatunde. The full-time whistle could not come sooner for La Celeste.
90' +2
Uruguay just cannot get hold of the ball and they seem content to sit back and soak up this Nigerian pressure. It's hardly been the most convincing of performances from Oscar Tabarez's side.
90'
Michel Babatunde goes close when he cuts inside the challenge of Caceres onto his left foot before unleashing a fierce effort which is well held by Muslera. There will be five minutes of stoppage time. Can Nigeria snatch a dramatic late equaliser?
89'
John Obi Mikel embarks on a mazy dribble before knocking the ball out wide for Ambrose, but the Celtic man disappointingly overhits his cross for a goal kick.
88'
Á. Pereira enters the game and replaces C. Rodríguez.
87'
Uruguay continue to run down the clock and they make another change with Inter wing-back Alvaro Pereira replacing Cristian Rodriguez for his 50th cap.
86'
Mikel floats the free kick into the box but it is well headed clear by a white shirt. All eleven Uruguay players are pinned deep into their own half at the moment.
84'
S. Coates gets yellow.
There is still fight in this Nigeria side but time is running out as Oboabona lashes a left-footed strike wide of the Muslera's goal. Six minutes remaining.
Sebastian Coates joins Diego Lugano in the book for a rash tackle through the back of Musa. Good free kick opportunity for the African side here, can they take advantage?
Minute
Description
83'
S. Coates enters the game and replaces L. Suárez.
82'
This substitution tells it all. Oscar Tabarez opts for a conservative switch, replacing Luis Suarez with Liverpool teammate Sebastian Coates. Five at the back for Uruguay in the closing stages.
80'
Things could have been different for Nigeria who really seem to be rueing the absences of key players Emmanuel Emenike and Victor Moses. Is there a hero amongst these players to salvage something for the Super Eagles?
79'
D. Lugano gets yellow.
Diego Lugano becomes the first Uruguayan man in the book for a cynical block on Musa off the ball. That will rule him out of the final group game against Tahiti.
77'
Kris Voakes: "The 'home' crowd are getting geared up for one last tilt by their Nigerian heroes here. Oscar Tabarez seems reasonably happy with his side right at the moment, although he may see his side drop points if Edinson Cavani keeps fluffing chances which have caused the coach to scratch his head quite vigorously a couple of times already."
76'
IT SHOULD BE 3-1! Cavani really does not have his shooting boots on today and the man who scored 33 goals for Napoli this season somehow heads over from close range after being picked out by Forlan's clever free kick. Could that miss prove costly?
74'
J. Akpala gets yellow.
Akpala quickly gets involved in the action but for the wrong reasons as he is booked within a minute for bringing down Suarez.
73'
J. Akpala enters the game and replaces B. Ideye.
Joseph Akpala is the final substitute for Stephen Keshi's side, replacing Brown Ideye. Can he prove to be THE Super Eagle?
72'
Nigeria continue to push for the equaliser and Ambrose plays a tidy ball into the path of Ideye who swivels towards goal but has the ball snatched off his toes by Pereira just as he was about to pull the trigger.
70'
Moments after Godin produces a world-class interception to prevent a dangerous Nigeria attack, Uruguay attack down the other end and Forland sends Cavani through clean on goal only for the Napoli man to wildly blaze high and wide of Enyeama's goal. Really poor effort from a striker in huge demand.
68'
Kris Voakes: "The sight of a Mexican Wave making its way around the stadium for a whole three minutes was enough to confirm that its Uruguay in the ascendancy right now, although Nigeria are looking to hit back once more. There's one Nigerian supporter to my left who seems particularly disconsolate. He hardly dare watch at the moment."
67'
Nervy moment for La Celeste as Babatunde's low cross takes a flick off Pereira but Muslera reacts well to make a smart save at his near post.
66'
S. Mba enters the game and replaces J. Ogu.
Stephen Keshi opts to make his second change as Sunday Mba, who scored the winning goal in the African Cup of Nations final, comes on to replace John Ogu.
64'
There is hope here for the Super Eagles as several of the Uruguayan players are beginning to look very weary. Can Tabarez's side hold on to this crucial lead?
62'
Ideye and Musa have linked up well this evening and the two combine effectively once more before the former's ambitious overhead kick flashes narrowly wide. Top marks for that effort.
60'
M. Babatunde gets yellow.
Michel Babatunde picks up the first caution of the match for a mistimed challenge on Cristian Rodriguez. Half an hour remaining for Nigeria to salvage something.
59'
What's that I can see? The crowd roar in unison as a Mexican wave breaks out inside the stadium.
57'
Both sides continue to attack and Echiejile, one of Nigeria's brightest performers, marauds forward from left-back again but his clipped cross narrowly evades the head of Ideye at the back post.
55'
That goal has ended a 12-game drought for Diego Forlan, the joint-longest of his career.
54'
That goal has given Uruguay some newfound confidence and it requires a brilliant header from Omeruo to prevent Cavani latching onto Suarez's cross from the right. Can Nigeria dig deep to level again?
53'
Kris Voakes: "Stephen Keshi has taken that disappointment calmly enough, responding to the Forlan goal by sitting back in the dugout and trusting in his team to fight back once more as they did in the first half."
52'
Incidentally, that goal takes Forlan one goal ahead of Suarez in the all-time goalscoring charts That is his 34th goal in 100 appearances.
51'
D. Forlán has scored a goal for Uruguay! Assist by E. Cavani.
WHAT A STRIKE FROM FORLAN! That is some way to mark your 100th international appearance! Against the run of play, Uruguay launch a quick counterattack with Cavani switching the ball out to the left for Forlan and the 34-year-old striker shows he's still got it by thumping an unstoppable left-footed shot past Enyeama from the edge of the box. Stunning strike. 2-1 Uruguay.
50'
It just is not going Uruguay's way at the moment and Suarez is the next player to show his frustration as his mazy dribble is brought to a halt by a well-timed challenge from Oboabona.
49'
Uruguay have been sloppy in possession since losing their lead and that is summed up as Forlan's quick free kick is passed straight to the nearest green shirt.
48'
Kris Voakes: "A lot of fans who were taking their time returning to their seats suddenly sprinted for a vantage point as they heard the crowd get excited within 30 seconds of the restart. There would have been quite a party in the stands if Ogu had turned that chance home."
47'
Nigeria start the second half brightly with two chances in quick succession. Babatunde's miscued shot nearly finds Ogu at the back post before Ambrose strides forward moments later to test Muslera with a low drive. The African side look confident here.
45' +1
Nigeria are finishing the half strongly and they win a third corner towards the end of the half. Ideye meets it with a fantastic looping header which Muslera does really well to tip over the crossbar.
45'
M. Babatunde enters the game and replaces N. Oduamadi.
44'
Oduamadi cannot continue for the Super Eagles and the Varese striker will shortly be replaced by 20-year-old midfielder Michel Babatunde.
42'
The Nigerians are really enjoying themselves at the moment but John Ogu dallies in possession on the edge of the box, allowing Uruguay to counter. The ball falls for Gonzalez outside the box but his fierce shot flashes high and wide of Enyeama's goal.
40'
Lugano was rooted to the spot for that goal and the Malaga defender produces a horrible backpass to allow Musa to advance on goal, only for the CSKA Moscow man to drag his effort wide of Muslera's right-hand post. Nearly a dramatic turnaround.
38'
Kris Voakes: "There are yellow-shirted fans jumping for joy all around the stadium after that marvellous finish by Mikel. They were just starting to get behind Nigeria once more as they built a couple of decent attacks, but now the place is bouncing once more."
37'
M. Obi has scored a goal for Nigeria! Assist by B. Ideye.
BRILLIANT GOAL FROM MIKEL! The Chelsea midfielder comes to his side's rescue, receiving Ideye's pass inside the box before skipping around the challenge of Lugano and finishing high into the net with his left foot. That's some finish for a defensive midfielder! 1-1.
36'
The Super Eagles are getting themselves in some promising positions and they win their second corner of the game when Ideye's shot is deflected behind by Pereira.
35'
Nigeria attack down the left again and it requires a crucial header from Lugano to prevent Ideye from heading in Echiejele's inviting cross.
34'
Oduamadi, to the relief of the Nigerian support, jogs back onto the field of play. Musa looks to shift inside onto his preferred right foot but Arevalo Rios reads the danger and makes a brilliant interception.
32'
Kris Voakes: "The crowd has fallen quite flat since the Uruguay goal, with many taking the time to rush for extra bottles of water to cope with the humid conditions. The small number of Uruguayans in the stadium are suddenly been heard more often than in those first 18 minutes."
30'
Nigeria's hat trick hero in their first game, Oduamadi, goes down and requires some treatment. That must come as a welcome refreshment break to some of the outfield players who have enjoyed a frantic first 30 minutes.
28'
Luis Suarez clearly fancies himself for goal of the tournament as he lets fly from near the half-way line, only to see his shot end up near the corner flag.
26'
Luis Suarez provides some brilliant footwork to trick his way down the left wing and he nearly creates a second goal when he sends a low cross into the box which ricochets off a Nigerian defender's foot and off Forlan before bobbling narrowly wide for a goal kick.
24'
Nigeria are having some joy down the left-hand side with the combination of Echiejile and Musa causing the Uruguay defence problems. Can they find an equaliser before half-time? Just over half-way through the first half.
22'
NIGERIA ALMOST LEVEL! Oduamadi scoops a glorious pass over the Uruguay defence for Ideye but the Dynamo Kiev forward is denied a strike on goal after a wonderful piece of last-ditch defending from Pereira. He's saved his side there!
20'
Kris Voakes: "Well that hasn't gone down well. The poor defending of the Nigerians has undermined them at a time when the crowd were really beginning to sniff a Super Eagles win. It could still happen of course, but the locals are not happy that their adoptive side have fallen behind."
19'
D. Lugano has scored a goal for Uruguay! Assist by D. Forlán.
URUGUAY TAKE THE LEAD! After Forlan's initial delivery is headed back to him, the Internacional striker slides a deft low cross into the six-yard box which is miskicked by Cavani before Lugano scuffs home from a few yards out. It's a scrappy goal but the South Americans won't care. 1-0!
18'
Musa has looked lively in the opening stages and the CSKA Moscow striker goes close to scoring when his well-struck shot from the edge of the box flashes narrowly wide.
16'
The Nigerians have really turned this game on its head and they are the side probing for the opener. Musa combines brilliantly with Echiejile down the left and his teasing low cross is ushered behind frantically by Caceres.
14'
Nigeria win another free kick in a dangerous position but Ideye's curling effort dips over the crossbar. Good response from the Super Eagles.
13'
Brown Ideye drills a low free kick towards goal from outside the box which is spilled unconvincingly by Muslera and the Galatasaray goalkeeper just about manages to jump on the loose ball to prevent Musa from tapping in the rebound.
11'
The crowd grow loud as Nigeria pour forward but Musa's shot from the edge of the box flashes inches wide of Muslera's left-hand post.
10'
Cavani is in the thick of the action at the moment and the much-coveted striker rises highest to meet Forlan's cross but flicks his header over the bar.
Kris Voakes: "The trend is very much set for the two coaches tonight. Stephen Keshi, the coolest man in football, stands chomping on chewing gum in his tracksuit and bib while his counterpart Oscar Tabarez looks much smarter in his suit, but also has a slightly more furrowed brow at this point as he screams at his defence from the edge of the technical area."
9'
The Nigerians are stepping out of defence very quickly and it again pays dividends as Cavani is adjudged offside from Forlan's clever free kick.
8'
Nigeria launch their first attack of the match and Musa does well to win a free kick down the left after Pereira cannot deal with his pace and concedes the foul. From the resulting set-piece, Mikel blasts over the crossbar.
6'
It's all Uruguay at the moment and Suarez slips a clever ball behind the Nigerian backline for Cavani but the Napoli talisman is denied a shot on goal by the linesman's flag.
4'
It's been a positive start from Oscar Tabarez's side as they look to put Nigeria on the back foot early on. Echiejile slices the ball behind for a second Uruguay corner which eventually comes to nothing as Cavani is adjudged to have pushed his marker.
2'
Good early chance for Uruguay as Forlan's free kick is cleared to the edge of the box before Rodriguez's well-struck effort is tipped over the crossbar by Enyeama.
1'
The referee blows his whistle and we are underway in Salvador!
Nigeria are in their traditional green kit with Uruguay in their away white strip. Brazil vs Mexico is the only game of the first eight in the tournament where both sides have worn first-choice colours.
Goal Correspondent Kris Voakes is in attendance at the Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador: "There's a group of Nigerians sat behind their team's substitutes bench who are already making themselves heard. They're the first ones to get the atmosphere going in the ground as numbers begin to build."
Despite winning their opening match against Tahiti 6-1, there were concerns over the complacency and lacklustre performance of Stephen Keshi's side. Should Nigeria draw with Uruguay tonight, goal difference could prove the deciding factor as to who progresses into the semi-finals.
However, that result did extend the Super Eagles' unbeaten run to 18 matches. Their last defeat came in a 1-0 loss against Peru in May 2012.
Oscar Tabarez's Uruguay were not convincing themselves although a superb late free kick from Luis Suarez ensured they only lost 2-1 to Spain - a scoreline which rather flattered the South Americans who were thoroughly outplayed. That loss means that La Celeste have only won three of their last 11 matches. Can they secure a crucial victory this evening to put them in the driving seat for qualification? A defeat would send them packing.
Without any further ado, here are this evening's lineups...
Stephen Keshi makes two changes to the side which beat Tahiti. John Ogu replaces Sunday Mba in the midfield whilst Brown Ideye is preferred to Anthony Ujah up front.
Diego Forlan becomes the first Uruguayan to make 100 international appearances and he is one of three changes for La Celeste. Midfield duo Arevalo Rios and Alvaro Gonzalez also come into the side with Gaston Ramirez, Diego Perez and Walter Gargano dropping out.
Kris Voakes: "There's a clear affinity for the local side here tonight. Every time a fan in a Bahia shirt is shown on screen, they get a big cheer. You have to feel sorry for the guy in the Flamengo top though, as his 15 seconds of fame were greeted by boos from the rest of the crowd!"
Luis Suarez is undoubtedly the man to watch out for this evening and the Liverpool striker could overtake Diego Forlan as Uruguay's record all-time goalscorer. Will he prove to be the match-winner? Remember that you can let me know your thoughts on the game via Twitter @MaxBentley1.
Here's an interesting stat for you: Nigeria have never won a competitive fixture against a South American side. Can they end that run this evening? The teams have emerged from the tunnels and kick-off is under five minutes away.
The national anthems of both countries echoe around this wonderful new arena. The footballing world really is in for a treat when the World Cup comes around next year!
Kris Voakes: "There are swathes of empty seats here for this one, even a lot of the hospitality areas are empty. Fifa announced last week that there were still almost 20,000 tickets were available for this game, but there appear to be more empty seats than that at kick-off time."
The Nigerians engage in a pre-match huddle as Uruguay get ready to set the ball rolling.
HALF TIME: NIGERIA 1-1 URUGUAY. The referee calls time on a thrilling first half. The South American side started the brightest and their captain Diego Lugano opened the scoring after 19 minutes but the Super Eagles responded excellently and their deserved equaliser came eight minutes before half-time when John Obi Mikel danced through the Uruguay defence before finishing in style. All level at the break.
Kris Voakes: "The African champions have probably been the better side for great parts of this match after struggling in the opening exchanges and falling behind. That to and fro has been matched in the stands, with the Brazilian faithful cheering them off as they head for the changing rooms having at one stage looked resigned to seeing Uruguay collect the three points."
Nicely poised at the halfway mark but which team can push on and secure those vital three points? Can Suarez become Uruguay's leading all-time goalscorer or will the Super Eagles extend their unbeaten run to 19 games? Let me know your thoughts and predictions on the match via Twitter @MaxBentley1.
Remember that if this game finishes as a draw and Nigeria lose to Spain on Sunday, goal difference could prove the deciding factor in determing which nation progresses. Will the 6-1 victory over Tahiti prove to be enough for Stephen Keshi's team?
The teams reemerge from the tunnels for the second half and there does not appear to be any further substitutions. The Super Eagles once again engage in a team huddle. Will they be celebrating in 45 minutes?
FULL TIME: NIGERIA 1-2 URUGUAY. It was a brave performance from the Super Eagles but their 18-match unbeaten run comes to an end courtesy of Diego Forlan's thunderbolt. Diego Lugano opened the scoring with a scrappy finish before John Obi Mikel showed splendid footwork to level before the half-time interval. Nigeria now require a victory against Spain and a slip-up from Uruguay against Tahiti if they are to advance to the semi-finals.
