And there is the final whistle! Inter slump to yet another Serie A defeat!
90' +3
GREAT DOUBLE SAVE FROM MARCHETTI! The Lazio goalkeeper has been outstanding this season and he has continued his fine form tonight. Twice he has just thwarted Rocchi in the space of a minute, as the Inter striker tries in vain to score against his former side.
90' +2
It's just not Inter's night. How different this game might have been if Alvarez hadn't lost his footing and skied that Inter penalty! At the time it would have made it 2-2.
90' +1
Hang on, that should have been a corner. Alvarez was dispossessed by Ciani on the right and the ball ran behind, yet the referee awarded a goal kick for Lazio.
90'
The fourth official signals for four minutes of added time!
89'
Lazio's 34-year-old striker Klose is still chasing Inter's defence in possession. It's been an impressively tireless performance from the man who scored five against Bologna just days ago.
87'
The home side push forward again down the right through Kovacic but he is robbed of possession by Hernanes. Lazio have really benefited from Petkovic's substitutions on the hour-mark, the double change has given them greater impetus, particularly in the midfield area.
86'
Guarin is selfish on the right wing as he tries to go it alone against Konko to get inside the Lazio box when he really should have passed to Alvarez.
84'
Considering they are two goals down Inter are not showing much urgency going forward! They are calmly passing the ball around outside the Lazio box. This result could make European qualification impossible. Surely they know that?
83'
Á. Pereira gets yellow.
Minute
Description
82'
Guarin catches Gonzalez with a rash challenge deep in the Lazio half, which gives the visiting side a free kick and allows them to slow the pace of the game down.
80'
L. Garritano enters the game and replaces Z. Kuzmanović.
STAT: The most games Inter have ever lost in a single league campaign is 14.
79'
I don't quite know how Inter are trailing by two goals here. They have dominated in this second half! They do trail though, and should they go on to lose it would be their 15th league defeat of the season.
77'
O. Onazi has scored a goal for Lazio!
THAT IS OUTRAGEOUS FROM ONAZI! The Lazio sub picks the ball up 40 yards from goal and runs past a couple of limp Inter tackles before rifling a shot into the top right corner. There was nothing limp about the 20-year-old's strike, Handanovic had no chance!
76'
Candreva's strike fails to beat the Inter wall! They stand firm to deflect the ball away.
75'
Juan Jesus gets yellow.
Klose is pulled back by Juan Jesus on the very edge of the Inter box! That could have been a red card for the defender, as it is, the referee only shows him a yellow. This free kick is in a great position for Lazio to test Handanovic though...
74'
This is a right old barnstormer at the San Siro! This game really could go either way. Inter are pouring forward in search of a goal to make it 2-2, that missed penalty from Alvarez has not put them off.
73'
Pereira crumples to the deck after being caught with a stray arm by Klose, and play stops momentarily.
72'
VENOMOUS STRIKE FROM HERNANES! The impressive Brazilian stings Handanovic's palms with a swerving shot from distance.
70'
NOW INTER DO HAVE A PENALTY!! Cana did well to block Guarin's shot a few moments ago, but now he has brought the Inter midfielder down inside the Lazio box, and the home side have a chance to equalise.
ALVAREZ SLIPS AS HE STRIKES THE SPOT-KICK! There are shades of John Terry in Moscow as the Argentine loses his footing as he steps up to strike the ball and as a result it balloons over Marchetti's crossbar. Lazio still lead 2-1!
68'
INTER WANT A PENALTY! Rocchi thinks Gonzalez has handled the ball inside the box but the referee is waving his protests away! The ball flicked up off the boot of the Inter striker and did appear to strike the defender's arm, though it would have been harsh.
66'
GOOD BLOCK FROM CANA! The Romanian utility man throws his body in the way of Guarin's strike, as the former Porto midfielder notches up what must be his fifth effort at goal since half-time!
65'
A driven pass from Kovacic has too much on it for Rocchi, as the ball goes steaming through to the Lazio goalkeeper Marchetti.
63'
The visitors counterattack through Klose and Hernanes, but the move deflates after a pass to Candreva is overhit and he has to sprint to keep the ball in play.
62'
Candreva tries to break on the right-hand side for Lazio but the attack is quickly snuffed out by some good tracking back from Guarin.
60'
O. Onazi enters the game and replaces C. Ledesma.
Petkovic decides a double change is needed as his side sit firmly on the back foot in this second half, despite leading. Ledsema and Floccari depart, with Ogenyi Onazi and Alvaro Gonzalez the players replacing them.
59'
Á. González enters the game and replaces S. Floccari.
GUARIN CURLS A SHOT WIDE! Inter have a glorious chance to equalise as the ball falls to Guarin following brilliant winglplay from Alvarez. One South American supplies another, but Guarin's placed shot from 12 yards goes inches wide of the top right corner.
57'
Kuzmanovic is at the heart of Inter's play at the moment. On this occasion he receives a pass from Pereira on the left and dribbles into the box before dinking an enticing pass across goal that neither Rocchi or Cambiasso can make contact with.
56'
Another corner for the hosts reaches Kuzmanovic in space 30 yards from goal, but he makes a mess of his shot, and the ball bounces harmlessly wide of Marchetti's goal.
55'
The home side win a corner on the left, but they fail to test Lazio from the set piece.
54'
Inter are forced to make a change as the not fully-fit Ranocchia is withdrawn and he is replaced by Simone Pasa.
53'
S. Pasa enters the game and replaces A. Ranocchia.
52'
STAT: Both clubs have had a year to rue in Italy to date - they are in the bottom six of Serie A for points picked up since the turn of 2013.
50'
Lulic just fails to control the ball inside the Inter box as Lazio try and hit back following that Guarin chance.
49'
GUARIN-CHES AWAY FROM BEING 2-2!! The Colombian cuts on to his right foot 25 yards out and unleashes a fierce shot that flies just wide of the right-hand post. Inter very nearly had an equaliser there!
47'
Inter need to buck up their ideas if they want to secure European football for next season. They sit eighth in the league at the moment, and if the score here stays the same Lazio will move five points clear of them in seventh.
46'
M. Ciani enters the game and replaces André Dias.
The second half starts at the San Siro. Just the one change to report as Michael Ciani replaces Andre Dias for the visitors.
45' +3
Penalty goal scored by Hernanes for Lazio!
LAZIO HAVE A PENALTY! Floccari goes down in the box under a challenge from Ranocchia as he tries to meet a pass from Candreva, and the referee immediately points to the spot!
HERNANES SMASHES THE SPOT-KICK PAST HANDANOVIC! The Brazilian midfielder shows his calm by shuffling up to the penalty and curling it into the top corner to make it 2-1.
45' +2
A. Ranocchia gets yellow.
Decent play from Guarin for Inter! The Colombia international gets to the byline on the right and drills a cross into the box that just evades Alvarez who is lurking on the six-yard line.
45' +1
After all those injury stoppages in the first half, the fourth official has signalled for three minutes of added time...
45'
Kovacic has shone in this first half for Inter – his latest involvement is to win his team a free kick after sprinting past Hernanes and drawing a foul from the Lazio schemer.
44'
A corner from Kuzmanovic on the right falls to the unlikely target of Juan Jesus, and the centre-back does well to win another corner on the opposite side for the home side.
42'
ALVAREZ SHOULD MAKE IT 2-1! Guarin's cross from the left evades Rocchi, before Cambiasso forces Marchetti into a save, but the ball falls invitingly for Alvarez eight yards out only for the attacker to sky his effort high over the bar. Mayhem in the Lazio box there!
40'
STAT: Alvarez has now scored six goals in his last 10 games for Inter.
39'
Kuzmanovic whips the corner into the box for Inter, but Alvarez is unable to repeat his aerial heroics from a few minutes ago as Radu heads the ball away from danger.
38'
Pereira's heavy cross runs all the way through to Guarin on the right, and he wins a corner after knocking the ball behind off the legs of Konko.
36'
MARVELLOUS MARCHETTI! The Lazio goalkeeper pulls off a wonderful diving save to tip Cambiasso's rising shot from 18 yards onto the left-hand post. That was top top goalkeeping!
34'
R. Álvarez has scored a goal for Inter Milan! Assist by Á. Pereira.
ALVAREZ EQUALISES FOR INTER!! The Argentine is normally known for his tricky footwork but he's scored a crunching header to draw his side level here! He rose highest to head Pereira's fine cross from the left past Marchetti.
33'
C. Ledesma gets yellow.
32'
FANTASTIC DEFENDING FROM RANOCCHIA! The Italy international stops a certain goal for Lazio as he dives in front of Floccari's shot after Handanovic had parried an effort from Klose.
31'
M. Benassi enters the game and replaces Jonathan.
30'
On comes the 18-year-old Marco Benassi to replace the injured Jonathan.
29'
ANOTHER INJURY FOR STRAMA TO DEAL WITH! Jonathan has had to be stretchered off at the San Siro after that clash with Floccari. The Inter coach will be ruing his bad luck, he has so many players missing through injury at the moment.
28'
Jonathan has gone down clutching his shoulder after bouncing off a challenge of Floccari. The Inter full-back went down as Lazio launched a quick counterattack down the left through Lulic.
27'
Kuzmanovic curls the set piece into the box but fails to find an Inter teammate, as Cana beats Kovacic in the air to head the ball up field.
26'
Free kick for Inter 35 yards from goal, to the right of the penalty area...
25'
STAT: Petkovic's men have not won away from home in the league since December 22, when they beat Sampdoria 1-0.
23'
CANDREVA SHOULD MAKE IT 2-0! The Lazio winger races through one-on-one with Handanovic after the Inter defence is caught out on the halfway line, but his low effort flies just the wrong side of the left-hand post.
22'
S. Handanovič is unfortunate, scores an own goal!
LAZIO TAKE THE LEAD! A FREAK GOAL MAKES IT 1-0! Candreva had done superbly to control a high ball on the left and curl a cross towards Sergio Floccari, only for it to strike the Inter goalkeeper Handanovic and bounce into the empty net.
19'
MORE GOOD PLAY FROM KOVACIC! The young midfielder plays an excellent pass inside Konko to Jonathan but the right-back's hanging cross is dealt with fairly comfortably by Lorik Cana.
18'
Alvaro Pereira glides down the left wing and swings a cross into the Lazio box but it fails to reach Rocchi due to the good positioning of Radu.
17'
The tempo here has dipped slightly after a high-octane start. The game is now further disrupted by a knock to Abdoulay Konko, the Lazio full-back.
16'
STAT: Lazio haven't beaten Inter at the San Siro since October 1998, when the Biancocelesti ran out 5-3 winners. The Nerazzurri have won nine and drawn eight in the 17 encounters since then.
14'
Inter have started very well here, they look a far more potent outfit than the team I watched limp to a 1-0 defeat against Palermo on April 28.
13'
The ball is not cleared far enough though, as first Rocchi and then Guarin have opportunities to fire shots goalwards, though both are blocked well by Lazio defenders.
12'
Freddy Guarin plays a nonchalant no-look pass out to Jonathan on the right, and the full back curls a cross into the box that is headed away by Stefan Radu.
10'
SUPER PLAY FROM KOVACIC! The Croatian midfielder dances past a couple of Lazio challenges and pushes forward with the ball before slipping a pass towards Rocchi. The Italian hammers a first time effort at goal but Marchetti is equal to it, and is able to palm the ball away.
8'
Lazio's Senad Lulic does brilliantly to chest a high pass away from Jonathan on the left, before driving into the box and cutting a pass back to Klose. You would have backed the German to open the scoring following his exploits at the weekend, but a heavy first touch allows Juan Jesus to get across and deflect Klose's shot over the bar.
7'
STAT: The Nerazzurri have lost four of their last five league matches.
6'
There is a break in play here after Marchetti takes a blow to the shoulder as he heads the ball away from Rocchi, btu after some treatment from the Lazio physios he appears okay to continue.
4'
Juan Jesus presses Klose just inside the Inter half and the visitors are awarded a soft free kick by the referee.
3'
GOOD STRIKE FROM ALVAREZ! The Argentine attacker impressed for Inter against Palermo 10 days ago, and he has just tested Federico Marchetti early on here with a dipping strike from 20 yards that the goalkeeper parried away well.
2'
Antonio Candreva nearly races on to a through ball from Hernanes for Lazio, but he is just unable to control the pass and it bounces all the way through to Samir Handanovic.
1'
And we are finally up and running at the San Siro...
My name is Charlie Scott and I'm the man trusted with bringing you colourful updates from the game in Milan as it unfolds. As always, I encourage you all to get in touch with your thoughts on the game at any point by tweeting me @charliefscott, or by posting in the comments box to the right.
With the pressure continuing to mount on Inter boss Andrea Stramaccioni, he will be hoping his team can secure a much-needed victory over their opponents tonight and in doing so keep their slim hopes of European qualification alive.
The visitors sit a place ahead of the Nerazzurri, after thrashing Bologna 6-0 on Sunday, a game in which Miroslav Klose smashed home five goals in an hour.
Enough chit-chat for the time being, how about some team news?
INTER (4-4-2): Handanovic; Jonathan, Ranocchia, Juan Jesus, Pereira; Kuzmanovic, Kovacic, Cambiasso; Guarin; Alvarez, Rocchi
Esteban Cambiasso returns to Inter's starting XI after a spell on the sidelines, while Lazio name the same XI that beat Bologna, with their five-goal star from that game, Klose, leading the line up front.
Tomasso Rocchi starts for the home side against his old club tonight, while Hernanes is making his 100th Serie A appearance for the Rome-based visitors.
The two sides don't fancy kicking off on time here I'm afraid folks. We should be underway shortly though!
How about this shiny new Match Centre, eh? Doesn't it look glorious?
HALF-TIME: INTER 1-2 LAZIO A highly-entertaining half ended with a bang, as Lazio scored in the dying moments of added time to lead at the interval. Hernanes swept a penalty past Handanovic to restore the visitors' lead, after a header from Alvarez had cancelled out Handanovic's own goal that had put them ahead midway through the half.
STAT: Inter had 69 per cent possession, and had twice as many shots on target as Lazio.. yet they trail 2-1! It's not all about the numbers people.
Well... that was an exciting half! Who were you guys most impressed with? And who do you think will win? I'm going to have to own up to having a bit of a crush on Kovacic after some of his play in the opening 45 minutes. Send your thoughts to @charliefscott!
FULL-TIME: INTER 1-3 LAZIO Petkovic's side produced a ruthless performance to leave the San Siro with three points in their Serie A clash against Inter. An own goal from Handanovic gifted them the lead, before Alvarez equalised for the hosts with a thumping header. A penalty on the brink of half-time from Hernanes restored Lazio's lead, and then a fabulous strike from Onzai in the 77th minute sealed the win. Inter's hopes of qualifying for Europe are now in tatters, with the all-important fifth place now out of their reach.
That's all from me for tonight ladies and gents. As ever, thank you for joining me. Good bye!
